I know its really hard to find things with the way the group search works. So you may not have been able to find them when you did your search before creating a new group. What I have found that works best is: click the Groups tab, then go to the "Complete groups list" at the top right, then use your browser's find-on-this-page function to search for a specific interest (genre, city, book, author...).
