About meI have made temporary nightstands out of stacked books. Disrespectful? No! And some of them lasted for months or years. Don't use any books in heavy rotation. I have been known to bring in books to trade for sandwiches and instead come home with fresh used book finds. My three favorite books are The Royal Family by William Vollmann, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Murakami, and Ada by Nabokov. The book I added to my LibraryThing catalog most recently is The Animal Family by Randall Jarrell. Watch this space

About my libraryKept in a hermetically sealed underground vault with unvarying humidity and temperature. Can be admired through crystal portals. Can be read with iron gauntlets. Can be seen with holes in night. Holds steady at 88 volumes, one for each of the fallen heroes. Identification of a fallen hero garners a prize. Unfurl your banner at the old stump. Wait.

Noticed you liked As I Lay Dying, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Here's a link to a summary (and a sample chapter)in case you'd like to read more about the novel before you commit:

Hail, Heidi! Writing you from scenic Dixon, New Mexico. Last book discovery: The Animal Family by Randall Jarrell. That's probly old news to you. I remember Janina was obsessed with him. The Thin Place by Kathryn Davis is coming from the library, also a bunch of books on Balthus. Do you like Balthus? Just waiting for the new Murakami, May . . . 9th?
Keep me posted
Dear grahamarama,

I am reading The English Patient. I know that's so 90's, but I am just now open to the idea. So far, I like! My new next door neighbor has committed herself to read every Trollope book in sequence. I've never read him, but her obssesion has me a bit intrigued by Mister Trollope. You, what are you reading?
Grahamarama! Wow, you're obsessed. How refreshing to hear such enthusiasm. I'm having a hard time adjusting to our move and have thus been a funk, an uncreative unenthusiastic, non-literary, non-artistic malaise. It was really nice to hear how excited you got about Murakami. It makes me want to re-read some of his. I hardly ever re-read anybody. I miss books. I want to work in a bookstore with people who love books. It was nice to be typed to by you.

wind up heidi

Graharama! Nice to hear from anotherlibrary thinger. Drink a grape beverage and enjoy the evening. I think it shall be a fog laden misty Santa Cruz night which could be much enjoyed with a cup in hand and some tunes spinning on your record player.
