About meI collect antiquarian books, book leaves, and vellum documents. Taught myself in palaeography, art, music.

About my libraryThe past year I've developed my collection of pre-1700 books, documents, and book leaves considerably. My collection of historic documents includes a vellum land grant in Latin handwritten in Essex c AD 1270; a vellum fragment addressed to Lord Chancellor Thomas Goodricke the Reformer c 1552-3; also transaction #1108 of the sale of Charles I's Goods, October 10th, 1651, signed by the Trustees (including George Wither the poet). My book collection features a Kingsley novel with the bookplate of Sir John A Macdonald (first Canadian Prime Minister), and a 1607 Breeches Bible in black-letter English which was once the family-bible of the famous clock-maker Thomas Lister in the mid-18thC. My book leaf collection consists entirely of 15th-16thC black-letter English printings, from Wynken de Worde, Pynson, Stowe's 1561 Chaucer, etc. Essentially I collect printed and handwritten material related to England, especially English history, law, protestant theology. But my collection is still quite undeveloped having only just begun collecting about 5 years ago; and most of my pre-1700 items have been acquired after August 2008 (altho not entirely). Recently acquired Stillingfleet's Great Fire sermon (Oct. 10th, 1666), and Sir Philip Warwick's Memoirs of the Reign of King Charles I with the armorial ex-libris of the first Earl of Sheffield.
