About my libraryWhen I have money, I buy books. When I don't have money, I read them.

I tend to acquire fiction that's stood the test of time; plays; nonfiction on the subjects in which I take a special interest; and comics.

For some years now, almost everything except comics has come from Strand Books.

In addition to books, this also catalogs musical scores and sheet music, often in PDF format.

Hi there, nice collection!
Yea, I realized that that a while ago. Does my page have something about it on there? I havent been on here in forever! lol It is still a tremendous book, nonetheless! I thought it was very interactive.
I say your name on the Sheet music group site. The group doesn't seem to be very active. I have started a group called Musical Theater and was wondering if it is something that would be of interest to you. Stop by and leave a post or a question or whatever.
Kathleen
Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't know that! And now I do. Great article. :-)
Hi- Mine is the play by Joseph Stein. I actually have it listed in my Bookmooch inventory but there it is correct. Do you want me to correct it here?
Mine is the novel, by Mr. Reiner. It's a paperback movie-tie-in edition from 1968.
"Is your copy of Enter Laughing the play (by Joseph Stein) or the novel (by Carl Reiner)?

Some people have the play listed as Reiner and I'm trying to fix the listings."

The novel. And you're welcome.
Thanks, Eric. It did take some effort to enter all those scores. I found a lot of the covers at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com using the advanced search feature. For the scores whose covers I wasn't able to locate, I posted pictures of the composers. Obviously, if I had a scanner, I would have scanned all of them. You might also consider tagging your scores as I have done, i.e., "orchestral score", "vocal score", "chamber music", "piano solo, or "piano duet". I never realized just how many scores I owned until I joined librarything.
As you requested, I've changed the title for a book entry of mine to 'Four Plays About Women: The Medea, Helen, The Trojan Women, Electra'. However, it seems that the title of the corresponding "work" entry remains 'EURIP 4 PLY WMN'.

I don't understand the workings of librarything, but I hope that "work" titles may be automatically revised in periodic updates of the database.
From Jim:

It's a full score. It's a Hungarian pirate reprint of the Ricordi score.

Forgot about this site for ages, but in response to your comment, I own all of them. :D (Actually, I think there's a couple up here that I own now and haven't listed...)

Don't worry, I'll be adding in some other titles soon...
Like the comment before me, I've only just gotten your "Sandman" message and I've cleaned up my catalog!
I'm sorry, I've been away from LibraryThing for months and months, and just now got your message. I'll edit the Sandman entry as soon as I can get to that, but right now I'm trying just to get caught up with my library! :(
Hi, over a year ago you left a message about "Death in Hamburg" - how rude of me not to reply until now. It is indeed a great book (only 6 users have it). Its such a great book for its wide-ranging treatment of what appears to be a very specific subject at first glance. Anyway best wishes.
Thanks for the input on Feiffer's "Passionella". Rather than rely on my poor and faded memory, I went back to the book. "Munro" is in this edition, immediately following "Passionella". I have the Signet edition from 1964; maybe it was deleted in subsequent editions. Thanks for steering me back to an old favorite though; I couldn't resist re-reading when I pulled it out.
Wow, so here's a reply that is roughly three months delayed. . . technological guru, I am.
I pretty much used the review space to mark which of my students is currently borrowing the books so I do not forget and allow them to disappear to various colleges around the country. ;-)
Thanks for your suggestion regarding the listing for scores. I'll check those I've entered and keep that in mind as I have a few more (mainly Dover). I've been able to list fairly quickly due to the connections with Amazon & L of C. Still have several hundred more books to catalog.
Thanks so much for your message, you are the first to respond. I have been laid up with a broken ankle for two months so I have time to enter my library; I still have a few hundred more to go. Since retiring I now have the time to pursue my passions including music. I write classical music reviews for a weekly newspaper, the big benefit is press tickets for one of the best seats in the house including the BSO (about 11 rows from the stage, orchestra center. What an incredible sound in the best concert hall in the world!

Cheers,

Bob
I'm not sure how I can make my Sandman titles any more obvious than Sandman Vol. 1 or whatever and then the title, which is how it is in my inventory. I entered them by ISBN and that's what came up.
No problem about the Sandman listings. What's the best way to get it done, though? Should I just edit the titles?
I'm not too sure about being there. At the time it was fun with a little frisson of excitement because some of the clashes were a bit violent - but nothing like the events in other parts of the country. I suspect we were all a bit twee and middle class at Sussex! I haven't read his leter book so thanks for alerting me to it.
You asked where I obtained a copy of David Edgar's Racism, Fascism and the Politics of the National Front? I was an undergraduate at Sussex University at the time and also a member of the Anti-Nazi League. Brighton was a centre for the National Front. I suspect I either picked it up from a stall at the university or in a Brighton bookshop. It's a long time ago now but I do recall the bookshops of Brighton which were excellent in those days.

I hope that helps.
Thanks for the pointer! I'll edit out those [from old catalog] notes.

I added [libretto] to my Don Giovanni listings.
Indeed, all the classical listings are recordings. My thanks,, Rob.
Thanks. I wanted to see the movie (and not only because it's Johnny Depp), but as much as I love reading scary stuff, I'm a huge chicken, so I copped out. I never knew there was a book. I'll be sure to look it up sometime.

I'm still unsure about my reviews. Usually when I read others' reviews, it's a summary of the book, with only a tiny portion involving whether or not they liked it. Most of mine seem to be a story about how I got the book. Which is guess is how it's going to work for me.

So many books, so little time! Too bad I have to go to school and, you know, get a job. :) -Miss Lizzy

P.S. I think I saw someone comment about a collection of Brecht's plays. The last show I was in was GALILEO, by the same author. It's a great show. -ML
no, dont' have an advance copy of absolute sandman. regrettably, i had not heard of it yet. thanks :)
RE:You might want to fix "Mutter Courage Und Ihre Kinder Ed Sander". I realize you got that info from Amazon, but I wonder who Ed Sander is?

Thanks for pointing that out!
The Brecht Collected Plays is the set of Mannheim/Willett translations. The two volumes you asked about were #1 and #6--apparently the volume number didn't come up in the Amazon search. I've modified the entries.
Oh hey thanks! I'll check that out when I get home. ;) I entered those sheet music titles pretty quickly, so there are probably more errors! I'll check them out. :)
Theanks for the note about The Sandman stuff -- the Library of Congress listings are obviously incomplete, and had screwed up my import. You've also reminded me that I meant to fill in the missing volumes with paperback editions; I was holding out for hardcovers in all cases, but I've given up that now. But it's easy to forget these things with so many books, as you must know!
I had a spreadsheet with all my books and many of the ISBNs. I just uploaded it and let LibraryThing do the work.
Thanks for the correction. English is not my first language :S
excellent! see if you can find a way to search individual tunes within a library and it'll be valuable to me :)
Re: how did I enter over 6,000 books in two days: I already had about 7,000 books in a Readerware database, and unfortunately I couldn't upload the whole export file b/c of the 2 MB limit. So I had to do a bunch of searches in readerware by specific keywords, and then I would export the chunks representing each search into a smaller file. So then I ended up uploading about 50 files to librarything, they were queued up and after about 20 hours were all uploaded. I wish they would support larger files!
