About me"Wie de geschiedenis niet kent is gedoemd ze te herhalen" -
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" (George Santayana - 1905)

I've always pictured paradise like some kind of a library. (Jorge Luis Borges)

I’m an optimistic, joyfull and happy person.
That does not mean I agree with everything that's going on around me.
Aside this I dislike injustice, dishonesty, hypocrisy, loud opinionated people and bullies.

But my love for books and nature is more important and photographing plants and animals is my other hobby.
When I help other people, I enjoy it to be kind, although my son sometimes thinks I’m crazy.
I like meeting people, even those who think differently, but now and then it gets a little crazy for me if I don’t take enough time for myself.
I trust people and I smile at strangers to see a glimpse of joy in their souls when they're smiling back.

I loved to travel, having the possibility to see the sights and to experience the sounds and tastes of other places.
Nowadays I enjoy reading a book with a contented dog on my lap. In this way I'm still able to travel, while I rest in my chair.

When I discovered LT on the WWW, I couldn't believe what I saw and even hadn't a clue of all the possibilities. It's like a candystore.
Before I became a member, I had partly catalogued my books in a database.
Actually it was awful to do compared to the possibilities I have with LT.
Because I now know where I have to look for, I'm trying to find the older missing books of all the bookseries I have.
After that comes the most fun part: its rereading of the whole serie. That's why I love LT.
Even for puzzling, an other hobby of me, I use LT. I enjoy the search on the internet, the digging for the information I need to know for combining books and authors.

That’s me!

Love the mouse!!!!
I am sorry to have caused confusion and work...I was just trying to improve the listing. :(
Hallo Guurtje,

Hartelijks, leo

Yes this is the other picture of me. With my hair back :)
Undskyld! Selvföllelig!

Jeg ordner med detsamme!
Thank you very much for the picture and all links at Rivka Basman . Best regards Reinhardt
Dear Guurtje, I worked yesterday until midnight in an internet caffeé. It was very important to me to find works about William Lanne (1835–1869). Now it is midnight again and I need to leave this place / library. Best regards Reinhardt
Dear Guurtje, re author Rivka Basman.
Thank you for your suggestion. There should be a time where I can use the yiddish typewriter for transliterations.
It would be "tseshotene kreln : lider" in this case. Best regards Reinhardt
Vriendelijke groet, Leo
OK. I think it's fixed now. I knew something strange happened when I added it but didn't notice it had doubled itself.

It's in Paris. Somehow it didn't save the information. I think I left the State/Territory field blank. I've completed it now.

Thanks Guurtje! I need to prepare a lot f things to involve people from the Munich Esperanto group, from the Berlin Esperanto center and many Esperanto librarians in LibraryThing. Beside there I am linked to the Yiddish and chess world. Have a nice day! Regards Reinhardt

Please do not vote againt this picture for the following reasons: Since 1930, Dutch publishers and booksellers have cooperated in promoting trade books; in 1983 this task was allotted to the CPNB (in Dutch: Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek), a foundation set up in Amsterdam. The CPNB aims to encourage the habits of book reading and book buying. Each CPNB campaign has its own mix of two strands, one idealistically promoting reading, the other, more commercially, encouraging the public to visit their local bookshop. The CPNB campaigns cover literary fiction, children's books, crime and thriller writing, and travel writing and travel guides. During the Book Week, which runs for ten days in March from a Wednesday to a Sunday, each customer who spends at least EUR 12,50 on a Dutch book (whether original Dutch or translation) receives The Book Week gift. This is a phenomenon. In recent years, its print run has exceeded 750,000 copies; this means that it reaches one in eight households in the Netherlands during the ten days of Book Week, and that 750,000 customers have come through the doors of the bookshop and bought at least one book each. Dear Guurt,

I'm glad to hear you're feeling well without having known you were not. it's always good to miss the bad news.

it is a great snake shot--it looks like an African rock python, but I don't know all constrictors well...

My bhairavi picture is posted on Le Salon...But my pictures should still be around--I haven't done anything with them.

The book business is a struggle as Amazon UK requires me to have a bank account in one of four countries, none of which I live in and Amazon US requires me to have a warehouse in the US handling my books, and my publisher here is a small one. I'm happy at least to have the book out and a few folks reading it.

Mainly, though, life is weather these days, nearly two weeks straight of freezing with strong, gusting NE winds (in Italian, the bora; in Slovene, the burja)...I expect you're having some chill up there too...

great to hear from you, Guurt--take care,

hoi Guurtje

Graag gedaan :-)
Hoe is het met Snufje?
Hij ziet er erg lief uit op de foto's!

Hi Guurtje,

Thanks for the nice comments about my book Yseult / Isolde / Flamme und Harfe! I like the picture that I replaced, but it's pretty old, from back when I was at Clarion in 1998, so it feels like cheating to have that one up as my author pic. :) (I'm quite bit heavier and a lot more wrinkled now! *g*)

If you ever need pics of me something like LibraryThing, I recently added a page with pics and bios to my blog, a bunch of shots my daughter took of me last summer:

Thanks again for the kind words. I hope you enjoy the book!

Hallo Guurtje

A. Haandrikman
Hoi, heb jij dat er allemaal opgezet? Bedankt.
Bedankt! I think it worked...
Great. Thanks for telling me this! I'm in New Orleans at the Library Convention but will try it next week.
Hi Guurtje
Thanks for your kind explanation! I thought a photo of my books would be fun but I have already replaced it with a photo of myself... I am just learning how to use this Library Thing... I corrected the typo in my name. It is Margriet Ruurs. Very Dutch! Even though I am now Canadian. Maar ik kan ook nog Hollands schrijven. Mijn eerste boek kwam uit in Nederland.
Thanks again.
Thanks Guurtje,

I'm doing fine. The book should be available at amazonUK, but in the US only in electro version because my small publisher has no warehouse there. In Dutch? That would be a great turn of events.

thanks, rick
