Grace,

Of course, you are my friend. This time of year is always so busy with the burst of activities that start the academic year, plus a major effectiveness report due. Why do I do this job?
Hey- Its Erin from ACL. Lori gave me the other ACLers on here. My handle is reflects my husband's height. :)
I am trying to get all of my books in here, but it is difficult to remember them all. I have my woderful librarian helping me out by making a file of the books I have checked out. She thinks it will work, I have no idea as I stubble through this new web site! I am off to the library, to get help.
Well, I just got done sending TerriB an email in which I confess to buying a 7-volume set of Charles Williams' novels off of abebooks.com. I thought I should let me know, because you were the unwitting co-conspiritor influencing my purchasing decision. So, you're both librarians? I'm jealous. Librarians are rockstars.
Don't you just love it when people think we really get to sit around and read all day? I work in an academic library and hardly even get to notice that we have books most days! Since I love books and reading so much, I had to learn early on not to get all wrapped up in looking at the books or I'd never get my work done. It's probably a good thing I'm not in a public library or I'd be way too tempted.
Oh dear. Another new author for me to fall in love with? I've never heard of Charles Williams. If you and TerriB are big fans, then I must make this discovery for myself. I currently working through "The Dead Father's Club" (a library book). When that's done, I've got two ER books, then I'm going to try and tackle some of my personal library. Have you heard of Sarah Miles? She wrote a book called "Take this Bread." A review of this book said Miles "makes Anne Lamott look like Barry Manilow." I love that.
Thank you for the invite! Glad to have you as a friend. Looks like we have quite a few books in common.
gveach: Thanks for inviting me to be your "friend" and for visiting my library. I see you share eclectic taste. I'd love to know more about you. What are you currently reading? Send me a line! Linda
I credited you in my blog post today (http://greenroomthoughts.blogspot.com/). Thanks for the lead on Jacobs.
Hi again. Thanks for the note about Alan Jacobs. I found the interview you referenced, or maybe a different one, on Mars Hill Audio, and listened to it. Jacobs does have some intelligent and thoughtful insight into TGC and the rest of the series, and it's historical context, and how the stories relate to faith and literature. I think I'll post the link on my blog.

One thing he said that was interesting to me was that reading an author like Pullman is seductive because he's so good at creating an imaginary world, and as you trust him to take you into this new and fascinating world, it becomes harder to mistrust him in moral matters. Interesting. I have to think about this some more.

And of course, I still need to read TGC for myself.
Thanks for your kind words about my blog, and thanks for commenting. I just read an interesting article on the Pullman books and movie in The Atlantic. I still want to read the books, but I doubt if reading them will make me suddenly think that they're bad for me or for my kids. It just give us more to talk about.
