About me Hello there, I love to read. I almost majored in poetry in college. One of my happiest years was teaching English and theater at a high school in Maine.

About my library I used to collect first editions. At one time, I owned original signed manuscripts of J.D. Salinger. I wish I still had them. I also collected John Updike. Karen Salmansohn used to be my next door neighbor. She is as witty and fascinating in person as in her funny books! I spent a delightful evening with Po Bronson once right after the publication of "the first $20 million is the hardest" Still one of my all time favorite titles. One year, I missed the book fair out here, only to find myself at the author's table at the book store, chatting about writing and fiction with William Kennedy and Frank McCourt. Once I attended the Pen writers awards featuring J. Updike and W. Allen. That night, I sat in front of John Irving. I turned to him and said, " What a pleasure to be sitting in front of you tonite" He said, " I don't know how to take that!"
Another great thrill was meeting Kurt Vonnegut.

I just got back from New York where I saw Rock'n'Roll, the stupendous new Tom Stoppard play. He just amazes me! The play juxtaposes a palimpsest history of rock music from the 60's to the 90's with the history of the Czech republic during those years. For good measure, we see several generations in the lives of some professors at Cambridge University, their children, and grandchildren. Stoppard must be so difficult at pitch meetings for studio executives. Maybe the coverage is better than mine.
What a great (and rare) way to do Indian Ink. I think that's part of the great argument for the survival of small theaters, that they become intimiate with a show and make the rarer choice. I saw a production of Carmen done in Atlanta a long time ago by a small troupe and they cast the leads as a racially mixed couple. It was a very intense choice.

I hope the winter isn't too harsh where you are. My dog is currently tracking mud all over the house, what with the melting snow and the rain.
I haven't been to my profile in awhile what with holidays and all and when I got back, I saw your friend invitation. You've got a interesting library. I saw Arcadia. I once got to play Lady Croom in a short run in Northern New York. It was great fun. Happy reading,

i'm listening to ayn rand the fountainhead on my new video ipod. is that considered the same as reading it? also, what if it is dramatized versus read? does that change your opinion?
Cool..which one is your favourite?
what do you make of this bastard, rilke, anyway?
I went to see the Coast of Utopia by Tom Stoppard at Lincoln Center last Spring. What an extraordinary endeavor. Almost a hundred people recreated Czarist Russia on the stage as it spun out of control and gave birth to communism, anarchism, and many other intellectual movements. The play sees the events of the late 19th century through the very human and empathetic eyes and ears of twenty protagonists. I love that theater like this can still be produced.
My favorite authors are Tom Stoppard, John Updike, Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, J.D. Salinger, T.S. Eliot, Martin Cruz Smith, Gustave Flaubert, E.M. Forster, Mark Twain, Robert Heinlein, Annette Meyers, Herman Wouk, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Mikhail Zoshzenko, Karen Salmansohn, Po Bronson, and many many others. Have a great day!
I recently bought and read Piazza by Marybeth Flower and Joe Bauwens. This exquisite coffee table books shows the gracious loveliness of Italy! What a great gift book this would be for someone who loves Italy, photography, and coffee table books.
