About meHelen Tinsley is a former Public School Teacher and Administrator. She is currently employed as an Education Program Development Specialist for the New Jersey State Department of Education. Helen is committed to the education of children. She is passionate about ensuring that children of color and inner city children receive an education that will empower them with the necessary skills and tools to make quality life choices.
Helen is a multi-dimensional artist, and her works include literary works (poetry, essays and children’s books), customized collages and ornamental picture frames. She self-published: Spirit Rising: Poetic Reflections; which is a collection of poetry that shares the experiences she has had and lessons she has learned, while trying to stay grounded “in spirit.” Helen earned dual Master’s degrees from Bank Street College of Education in NYC in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and Educational Administration. She is the mother of four adult children, and four grandchildren.
About my libraryMy library contains a diverse array of books. I have a large focus on African-African literature, history and culture; with a specific emphasis on women. I have many of the works by: Zora Neal Hurston, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni, J. Caligornia Cooper, Langston Hughes, Terri McMillan, Bell Hooks, and others. I also have many poetry books, autobiographies and historical works. I am still adding books "slowly" to my library thing collections.
