About meI am a book editor currently learning Tajik and looking for a job in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. My wife and I were both literature majors in college. Previously, I edited nonfiction books in Ethiopia and proofread and managed the Germanic Review (German literature, philosophy, and culture) in Washington, DC.

About my libraryIt includes books from my collection AND my wife's. I'll be going through our collection and tagging my wife's books (MM) and mine (CP).

I find myself buying books pretty frequently; books are one habit I don't think I'll ever break (nor should I!).

Dare To Dream

Let nothing hold you back from
exploring your wildest fantasies,
wishes, and aspirations.
Don't be afraid to dream big
and to follow your dreams
wherever they may lead you.
Open your eyes to their beauty;
open your mind to their magic;
open your heart to their possibilities.

Dare to dream.
Whether they are in color
or in black and white,
whether they are big or small,
easily attainable or almost impossible,
look to your dreams,
and make them become reality.
Wishes and hopes are nothing
until you take the first step
towards making them something!

Dare to dream,
Because only by dreaming,
will you ever discover
who you are, what you want,
and what you can do.
Don't be afraid to take risks,
to become involved,
to make commitment.
Do whatever it takes to make
your dreams come true.
Always believe in miracles,
and always believe in you!

I just saw in Reading Globally that you're off to Tajikistan soon - colour me jealous! I visited Uzbekistan nearly two years ago and found it fascinating. If you're interested in a novel based in Central Asia, The Railway by Hamid Ismailov is an interesting read. I'm not sure why I'm telling you this- I think I was mostly just excited to see someone else going to visit Central Asia!
Hi,

Was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Saw you liked When I was Five I Killed Myself, and thought you might like my novel since it's also about a disturbed adolescent and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks Corey--I'll check in with the small-press group regularly.
Dear Corey,
My wife (MtnSk8tr) asked me to respond to your comment since I purchased Vertical Ethiopia. In addition to having our personal library, I am the librarian for the outdoor club the Spokane Mountaineers (http://www.librarything.com/profile/Spok...). I haven’t met the author, but have been reading her well-written articles in a national magazine (Climbing). Before purchasing it, I was intrigued by the book for several reasons: I knew the writings of the author; the photographer is a friend and climber, skier, and outdoorsperson originally from our town (Spokane, Washington area); and I wanted to read what the author had to say about her experience in a land and among people I knew little about.

I’ve only skimmed the text, and have yet to read the book fully. However, much as the author wrote in her book, I’ve already learned much about the country and people. Right away I was impressed with the attractiveness of the images, and the layout and graphic design. I will be glad to give a full review and post it on librarything.com once I’ve actually read it and look at it with a more critical eye.

Congratulations on printing such a unique, informative, and beautiful book. I wish you the best of success with it.

Steve
I wanted to say I think it's great you got selected for Time Bandit. Since you live in Ethiopia, have you seen Deadliest Catch? It's my husbands favorite show. You can see the web site for the Time Bandit at http://www.timebandit.tv. I might just get this book for his upcoming birthday! I can't wait to read your review.
When I see "Ethiopia" all I can think of is Rimbaud. Can't imagine living there.
What, no one reads Bender's for fun? You got me. We are loving Ho Chi Minh City but are thinking about biddng Ethiopia some day, so I'd love to swap opinions, especially since we seem to have similar taste in books.
