I read your review of "Grandfather's Journey" today, and noted that you wondered if children would "catch" the nostalgia. My son's class (5th grade) just read the book together on Friday, and I had warned him in advance that I am so effected by the book that I can't read it aloud for fear of being reduced to tears. He came home and said that he didn't see a thing worth crying about. So, I think that there's your answer- I think that they don't sense that nostalgia until they are a bit older.
