About meI'm a 50+ year old Dutchman who is mad about beautiful books. Book collecting is not 'a gentle madness' as Nicholas Basbanes holds, but a terrible, incurable disease that's getting worse as one gets older. But, it must be said, it's also the only disease that can be cured by... books.

About my libraryI have over 5,500 volumes in my library, with a current grow rate of about 100 books per year. Main focus on islands, travel, discovery and exploration, (maritime) history, books about books, biography, atlases and erotica. Here on LT, I plan to add my non fiction books and mainly those that are in English, German or French. Adding my books to LT is quite a tough job since so many of them are pre-ISBN or otherwise can't be found in on-line book resources. I found that 100's of my books are not even in the Library of Congress, for instance.
The tag 'ex-lib BB' used in my library means that this book has been acquired from the library of the late writer, collector, traveller and TV personality Boudewijn Büch [1948-2002].

Belated thanks for your helpful post. I bore in mind what you said and have found a copy over 30% off, so shall probably order it. Cheers.
(And thank you for mentioning Mr Buch. I've just googled him and given his interest in inaccessible islands and your acquisitions from his library, I look forward to going through the books with your 'islands' tag.)
You obviously have perfect English, but apologies nonetheless for not posting you in Dutch. . . I'm considering getting Borchert's Book of Miracles and have noticed that you gave it 3 1/2 stars. I read an amazon review complaining about the quality of the reproductions in it; is that why you didn't rate it more highly, or is there another problem with the book I should know about? Many thanks.
Beste Islandbooks/Boekengek/Martin,

Beautiful place! Compliments for your collection, we share a very rare edition of "Paradiso stills" by Max Natkiel. Best wishes from Vienna!
BTW, I love the pictures of your library. Very Beautiful!
Thank you so much! I absolutely love the marbling and goat skin. They are wonderful books. I also purchased them for an insanely low price.
I didn't know you had a Pepys room in your library! (Or have I misunderstood?) Congratulations! I will feel it a necessity to visit it one day ;-)
I'm wondering if we speak of the same thing concerning the Pepys LE binding. My binding doesn't show any groove in the leather near the edge of the spine, close to the board. Nor does it show any impress in the leather at the limit where the leather meets the marbled paper. Do you observe both the groove and the impress on your copy? I don't know about the lack of impress, but the lack of groove is rather unpleasant to the eye.
