About meI'm a wife and mother of three children, who have all now graduated from high school. I have worked at home as a part-time ophthalmic transcriptionist for twenty-five years, and I have a daily habit of exercise and fairly healthful eating. I love singing in my church's choir, and I am crazy about playing board and card games.

I am trying to vary the types of books I read, but I especially have enjoyed mysteries and biographies/autobiographies lately. I don't care for Russian fiction, fantasies, science fiction, and horror stories.
I'm a horrible writer, so please bear with (or ignore) my reviews!

"I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.” (Groucho Marx)

About my libraryI own very few books. Most of the books listed on this site are books I have borrowed from my local library. I added up what the cost would have been through Amazon on the 100 books I read just last year alone, and I would have spent over $1400. So. . . I LOVE my library!!!

Thank you for accepting my invitation and being my friend.
Hello Jennifer! I invited you to be my "friend" on LibraryThing because I saw you have listed Randy Alcorn as a favorite author! I don't have much of my library on here yet, and I don't own any Alcorn yet, but I treasure his work toward protecting all the babies in the womb! :) What drew me to your page however was that I noticed you quit on Irving's A Son Of The Circus!!! Lol! I'm ashamed I read as far as I did! But I had read a Prayer For Owen Meany and yet hoping Irving would somehow redeem the disgusting story he had launched. Anyway, I agree: life is too short and there are enough great books, why waste time on "good" books let alone trash!!! LOL!

Noticed you liked The Glass Castle, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family (and also a bit dark). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Thanks for the note! It sounds like a very lovely place that I'd enjoy. Our vacation plans are all in place for this year, but there's always next year . . .

Your dream vacation sounded WONDERFULF!! I was in Jamaica once for a conference -- it's a fascinating island -- but we stayed on the University of the West Indies campus, which was pretty, uh, non-luxurious (if that's a word) and not by the beach. Very interesting place, though. I enjoyed it.

Thanks again!
Thanks for adding me! I am a retired English teacher in the Maritimes (Canada) although I still substitute on the occasional day....you have a great selection of books...I've just bought Three Cups of Tea which I am looking forward to reading. Right now I am reading The Return of the Prodigal which is a beautiful treatise on Rembrandt's famous painting. It is beautiful and if you are interested in religious books, it is a must. It's all about finding your way home and what is important in life. I love mysteries...especially British ones like P.D. James and I read a lot of biography. I LOVED A Fine Balance....it was so beautifully written but heartbreaking. I recommend another book by him....not as sad...it is Such a Long Journey. Happy reading!
I love Dee Henderson and it appears you do as well. Have you read any of Susan May Warren books? She is similiar to Dee Henderson. I think you would enjoyher. Are you anywhere close to Petoskey MI? We went there one year for vacation and really liked it.
Hi Mom!
I'm just here to steal some books. ;) Love ya.

G'day Jennifer,
Thanks for writing back. I'm glad you enjoyed my website. I have some very computer savvy friends in Perth who came and gave me a hand setting it all up.
Do let me know what you think of the Follett books when you've finished them.

Keep well, happy Easter,
hello from Western Australia,
Hmm, I read a lot of sf and fantasy (which you don't), but have found quite a few books we have in common on your shelves. I don't have all mine listed on here, but they are all on my website at http://members.westnet.com.au/ariom if you want to go have a look. I also have stories for children and some teaching aid stuff. Probably not of much use for your kids as they're older, but maybe for others.
Have you read any of Alexander McCall Smith's books starting with The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency? They are a delight, as are the books of Salley Vickers (Mr Golightly's Holiday and Miss Garnet's Angel specifically).
I loved the Pillars of the Earth and also the follow up to it (although as yet I've only had that one from the library ... plan on getting my own copy sometime soon)
Regards,
Hmm, that would seem like a mystery. I belong to Early Reviewers and was on Abby's profile page to see something, and you had a comment there about it, so I clicked on the link. Mystery solved:)
I'm so amazed that anyone could make a mosaic picture using book covers - and yours looks very nice. My friends consider me adept with the computer and peripherals, but I wouldn't want to even try something like that. Congratulations!
I love it! Excellent.

Abby
I just wanted to say hi to another Pearl S. Buck fan...there are only 9 of us as of yet. :D Everyone else just doesn't know what they are missing!
