Hi again Joshua,

Many thanks for your kind feedback. I believe you will enjoy the book. It has a relevance to the modern day which is quite surprising. Be sure to check out Law of Nature too. It's at the back of most editions of ROE. It's kind of a primer on Natural Law--the idea that a universal law of morality can be derived from the physical laws of nature. Please feel free to send any comments or questions when you have an opportunity.

Hello Joshua,
Thank you for accepting my friends invitation. Given that you already own a copy, I thought you might be interested to know about Thomas Jefferson’s translation of Volney’s Ruins of Empires. I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding Volney, his views or how to purchase his books. Sometimes I've found learning about a new author is like learning a new word--once you learn it, suddenly it begins to pop up everywhere. If that happens with Volney please let me know. All Zee Best, TCW

PS--Your library is unique. Most folks on LT have several books in their collection which refer to Ruins of Empires (such as Shelley’s Frankenstein, Tocqueville’s Democracy in America, or Hitchens' God is Not Great). Your library, however, is exactly the reverse: you have a copy of ROE in your collection but no other books which refer to it. If I may ask, why did you purchase ROE in the first place? Merci encore.
I will find you, and will apprehend your copy of On Being Blue.
William Gass is a beautiful person and a consistently, incessantly beautiful writer! I'm not a big Gertrude Stein fan, I like the idea of Stein but Stein herself, except maybe Tender Buttons, doesn't do it for me, but Gass on Stein in a thinking pleasure.

On Being Blue is my favorite of all his works. It was given to me as a gift by a dear lost lover who once said in her inscription of a another book to me something that I couldn't fully appreciate at the time: "taste - no small thing."

You've got great taste. Cheers!
of course there is always Borges which I am sure you have a familiarity. I also recently purchased [The Bride From Odessa] by [Edgardo Cozarinsky] an Argentine writer/filmmaker living in Paris, this ia a short-story collection, i have yet to read.

stay in touch.
picked up on you through the South American Fiction Group- I got a kick out of your ratings...i've been spending some of my time in Buenos Aires getting a taste of the ex-pat experience. good luck on your return home
