About meI'm an empty nester living in WA. I'm lucky enough not be working anymore, but in the past worked in a high school library, a K-8 library and a medical library. I started an MLS but didn't finish partly because we moved and partly because I preferred being in a support position.

My reading interests are all over the place. I like to rotate between genres and balance literary reads with pure entertainment.

What gets me hyped about a book is great characterization and/or great writing technique. I love authors that phrase complex ideas/images/truths in simple language. An example is my favorite quote from [East of Eden]: "Now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good."

What makes me cringe are authors who write great early books and then resort to just throwing characters and plot into whatever pattern or gimmick worked in the first few. It's not just a gimmicky overall structure that bothers me, but language and sentence patterns that are over used. It makes me feel like I'm being manipulated.

I spend my days loving my "best dog in the world" and am getting into mosaic. I'm worried that my country is an oligarchy and no longer works for the people. I wish Reagan had just kept making movies.

About my libraryCurrently (11/11/09) just contains some of my favorites, but I am planning on adding comments and other reads.
