About meClick here for my 2012 Challenge thread.

Transplanted the family from south Texas to Auckland in 2003. We are currently 1 year in to our next great adventure, moving from the city to 15 acres in rural Northland. I'm loving the journey.

I'll read just about anything.

Favorite books read in 2011:

1. City of Thieves by David Benioff (2008 - historical fiction)
2. The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry (2008 -fictional autobiography)
3. Cities of the Plain by Cormac McCarthy (1999 - western)
4. Away by Amy Bloom (2007 - historical fiction)
5. Beloved by Toni Morrison (1988 - historical fiction)
6. Jack of Shadows by Roger Zelazny (1975 - fantasy)
7. Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow (2008 - fantasy/ horror/ mystery/ verse mashup)
8. Ravelstein by Saul Bellow (2000- fictional biography)
9. The Blue by Mary McCallum (2007 - adventure/ romance)
10. Fieldwork by Mischa Berlinski (2007 - mystery / anthropology)

About my libraryI am trying to list every book I remember reading, whether I owned it or not. I've also started trying to tag books with the year I read them.

My rating scale is based on a 10-point system. Every book starts at 5. I then add or subtract points given my impression of the premise, the plot, character development, my emotional involvement, and writing.

Hi Jeanne, are you interested in doing a Christmas book swap? Amongst NZ, Aus, and SE Asian dwellers from the 75 group.
My idea is for names to be drawn out of who is interested and whoever is designated the giver, makes a list of 10 (or more) books they are willing to part with, and the receiver picks the one most to their liking. All done through private messaging once I have drawn and allocated the people involved.

Thanks, Megan
Hi, Jeanne. It's been a long time since we chatted, I see. Thank you for finding my library interesting! I take that compliment personally.
Moving to rural Australia. I wonder whether that means more or less reading time. Anyway, I'll be interested to hear about whatever you tell us on your 75 thread!
Peggy
thanks for adding me to your "interesting libraries", I added you too ;-)
Hi, Jeanne,

I saw on Whisper1(Linda's) thread that you have a 12 year old that's getting into reading. I have a friend whose 11 year old is an avid reader and since she doesn't read that much, her son and I talk about his books. I would suggest looking into the books by Michael Scott, Rick Riordan, Garth Nix, and Naomi Novik. I love to encourage young people to read!

Hope you enjoy some of these.

I have it set up in an Access database, otherwise I could never keep track. I know that I'll maybe read 10 to 20% of them. I just find it fun to make the lists.
We have a LOT of mysteries in common, I see!
Hi Jeanne--I've accepted your friendship invite. What a big change--to move from Texas to New Zealand. Is it too nosy to ask what led to the move?

I was wondering, since we don't share any groups, how you found me to ask me to be friends.

Cheers,

Deborah
Hi Jeanne (pronounced Jeannie) : ). My studyding days are behind me, for which I'm grateful. I have (Hons) BA English and BEd. All of my post secondary was in Ottawa: Carleton Univeristy and University of Ottawa. I've taught for many years here in BC.
Yes, another list maker : ). What an interesting profile, Jeanne. Do you pronounce your name "Jean" or "Jeannie"?
What a great story about Doubtless Bay. I love knowing the reasons for place names.
Hi Jeanne, I will have to come back and look at your list of books and your blog. I absolutely love the name of the place you live--Doubtless Bay!

Happy reading.

I just wanted to say I have spent the last few days reading Primal Fear and couldn't understand why anyone would find it so scary (having read your review before I started). Last night I finished it and went to bed with my hair still standing on end. Thanks for a great review!
Hi,

Was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Saw you liked Butcher Boy, and I thought you might like my novel since it's also about a disturbed adolescent and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

your review of DEXTER IN THE DARK was hilarious! Thanks :) -sophie
Thanks. Hope you enjoy the books!
It's nice to meet you! I look forward to exploring your books.
I downloaded the evernotes. It looks really cool and I am looking forward to putting it to (general) use. Have you upgraded to the paid version? If so, was it money well spent? Thanks for the tip.
