Hey Jen -- haven't seen you post in awhile. Are you too involved with real life to spend much time at LT or are you just lurking in the shadows? (LOL)

Ciao!

Garp
Thanks for the quick reply. Your method sounds very logical. I often recall the environment or the coincidences surrounding the books I've read. Lately I found a very comfortable chair and do most of my reading in my library. I must force myself to adopt your method. Carmelo
Hi Jen, I like to read several books at a time, but your list includes James Joyce, Lawrence Stern and Murasaki Shikibu. How are you going to keep them apart? Let me in on your secret. Good Luck. Carmelo
I actually never thought about reading Ulysses and the Odyssey parallel. Brilliant. Sounds like I should put that on my TBR. I read the Odyssey some time back but Ulysses has sat on my bookshelf gathering dust since I was 13 and I never made it further than page 6 or something. Now I have a plan.

As for the Iliad, I always thought that Homer intended Hector as the real hero of the Iliad. Overall, the Trojans seem so much more mature and civilized than the Greeks, don't they?

Ciao

Jen -- Great post in "On the Wisdom of a Library" -- very witty & on-topic --and thanks for the compliment on my collection.

I notice we share a number of books including "How To Survive a Robot Uprising." Did you read it? I belong to a local "books & beer" club with a small group of guys and that was a selection one month. I thought it was great. Nice follow-up to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" (an old time fav or mine) don't you think?

I see you are reading "Odyssey" & "Ulysses" at the same time. Now that is ambitious! Just wondering whether you are reading the verse or the prose translation of Odyssey? I read the old Butler prose one. Ever read the Iliad? That's my favorite and what launched me on my quest to get the classical education I missed the first time around. I read mostly non-fiction these days, but it is my goal to get thru all the classics one day.

I think it is very interesting. I have a thing for Dionysus and the sacred marriage with Ariadne. my webpage-- lornacahall.com is reachable on Google. I'm building it. Of course they aren't sure what took place in the villa, but I imagine that it is a preparation for marriage. (not a coming-of-age, so much)I am fascinated by the art and the world that must have been represented there.
Where have you been?
:o/
Jen: Thanks for the quick reply. I pasted the code onto my profile, but did not receieve any map. In any event I now have managed to install a maploco. BTW, I was stationed at Flugplatz Hahn from 1975-78 and have fond memories of the Mosel and Hundsruck, albeit not the weather. Cheers, Nemoman
Hi Jen: It appears you have successfully installed a clustrmap on you profile. I am a complete klutz and have yet to figure out how to install mine. I would appreciate your telling me how it is done. Please be insultingly explicit. Thanks, Nemoman
Welcome to Decadence. I also want to put out a high-five for your PG Wodehouse readings. I love his books and have grabbed as many of them as I could lay my hands on. I have the Stephen Fry/Hugh Laurie "Jeeves and Bertie" series as well. Fry seemed to young for the role of the shimmering one, but it worked for me.
:) So etwa 40 km von Köln entfernt ;) Ich werde morgen nachschauen, welche Imps ich noch habe. LG
hi jen,

this is alex. after you showed me librarything this morning i had to create my own profile and just catalogued the 4 books beside my bed.

cu soon.
Hi Jen:

Isn't map loco a cool idea? Glad to see you've incorporated it onto your main profile. :)
Hi Anya! :)
I love surprises like this! :D

Welcome to Books Compared. My ancestors immigrated from the Rhineland area 150 years ago, and in 2000 I spent a fabulous 3 weeks exploring the villages they came from. Hope you're enjoying Cologne!
