About meHello, I'm Jen Nails. I am originally from Las Vegas and have lived in New York City for almost twelve years. I teach improvisation at the New York Film Academy, and solo performance at the Peoples Improv Theater. My first book, Next to Mexico, is a humorous middle grade novel and comes out this August! I am still in shock that the messy thing that took up room on my Mac and in my head and in my sleep for three years is actually going to be a BOOK. I'm interested in connecting with children's book lovers and writers.
Here's the blurb for Next to Mexico that appears in the Houghton Mifflin Fall catalogue:
When Lylice Martin found out she was skipping fifth grade, she was excited. Then nervous. Then excited again. Then terrified. On her first day of sixth grade everything bad that could happen did. But when Senora Schwartz assigned her to be Mexico Mendoza's English Buddy, school got a little better. Then a lot better. Then not as
better. Then much, much worse. This is the story of her first quarter at Susan B. Anthony Middle School. And the story of how to get away with something that grown-ups will first not like, then, after they look at you and think about it, won't mind. And actually think was a good idea. Oh, and it's about doing something so stupid because of a boy and worrying that your best friend will never talk to you again.
About my libraryI am slowly but surely adding my favorite books onto the site. Please bear with me. I am in the process of figuring out how to juggle mothering, going to school, working, moving to Brooklyn, oh yeah, and writing... :)
