I am surprised that you have 2and one half stars for The World of My Past.
Can you explain why? I know the author and the forewards are by
Sir Zelman Cohen, Barry Jones, Ramona Kaval.
It is one of the best holocaust accounts I have every read and I have been reading about this subject for 6 months.
I heard Nancy Pearl on the radio - just fantastic! I loved her second book, so had to have the first. Then found the children's one on a trip last week, which lists quite a few books I read in my youth, inspiration for my own kids too.

Your library is awesome!!
never read a Jane Austen!!! oh you are so LUCKY!!! well, i think you have a huge treat in store - hope so!

Pride and prejudice is a GREAT one - i would probably start with that. one of the most famous opening sentences in the canon of literature - It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. this gives you a great clue about austen's use of irony and when you meet the character of elizabeth bennett i defy you not to lerve her! i think she's one of the most charming literary heroines ever created. . . although i also adore emma - but start with pride and prejudice. (there is also a wonderful BBC series that i like a lot that you could get on DVD if you enjoy the novel).

while not wanting to rush off to do dvds, another of my favourite austen adaptions is Clueless - not a period frock in sight, but a very faithful rendition and updating of the plot to 90s Los Angeles. great film!

anyway - as you can see i am glued to library thing and remain busy trying to catalogue - i wish it didn't take so long though. i will be here forever.
i have to upgrade already and i've done hardly any books!!! but it won't let me put any more in, so i am going to pay. just lerve, lerve this site!!
