About me"Think as I think," said a man,
"Or you are abominably wicked;
You are a toad."
And after I had thought of it,
I said: "I will, then, be a toad."

Our shared books number among my favorites. In fact, of the 31 currently listed, only 4 hold less than high interest for me:
"Corelli's Mandolin" - I haven't read it yet, but it has been highly touted to me by a friend in Ottawa, Canada.
"Endurance" - Another one I haven't yet read, but it's on the back log.
"Good Omens" - I just didn't see what the fuss was all about. I can honestly say I don't remember a single thing about this book.
"No Highway" - I bought this after reading "On the Beach" but have never gotten around to reading it.
Of the remaing 27:
"Bellwether" - warped characters, esp. Flip
"Cold Comfort Farm" - all I can say is 'That poor girl!'
"The curious incident..." - overwhelming; the boy has a strength of character that reminds me a tad of Smilla
"From Time to Time" "Time and Again" - convincing historical portrayals; delicious irony in the Titanic episode
"Hitchhiker's Guide" - I'm definitely not panic-ing
"The Hobbit" "Lord of the Rings" - way up there on my re-read scale.
"Never Cry Wolf" - There's a vole running around here in my basement as I type: maybe I should catch it and cook it ;-)
"The Pine Barrens" - I was born in Burlington, N.J. and during my youth often traveled through "the pines" to "the shore" My wife
and I spent a week at Beach Haven in 1995 and visited several places in the Barrens (Batsto among them)
"The Remains of the Day" - the irony builds and builds until you almost drown in it.
"To Kill a Mockingbird" - Scout and Boo Radley and Atticus Finch and all the rest of it alternate between comedy and tragedy in a
way that makes you wonder why Harper Lee never wrote much of anything else.

Another book you may like (along the same lines as Lepage), is Niels Lyhne by Jens Peter Jacobsen. Check out the blurbs on the dust jacket. Mahler, Mann, Freud, and several other notable figures named it their favorite book.
