Noticed you liked As I Lay Dying, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Here's a link to a summary (and a sample chapter)in case you'd like to read more about the novel before you commit:

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad there's someone out there enjoying my site. If there are more, they're not telling me about it very often. Thanks for that too. Take care,

John
I see you too are a Granta man.

Do you recall, and/or have your seen the piece "The Anatomy of Love" - it is shocking is so many ways.
A few brief pages - and yet such a wonder.

If you haven't seen it - let me know and I will try to track it down for you.
I will find the James Baldwin novel.
He stole my heart with "Giovanni's Room" - it is the first piece of gay fiction I came across that was also beautiful literature.

University starts for me again shortly, so my reading time (of non technical books) is limited. But there is always time for just one more.
Hey Jim,
Our libraries seem to overlap in good proportion.

I see Martha Gellhorn represented. Leaving a wealthy home at 21 with almost no money - and making her way in the world. It was Granta that introduced me to her and I am a fan.

It was the lynching reportage that first hooked me - and years later - I find that it did not happen quite as she described it.

But an affair with Ernest - hiding away on a hospital ship for the Normandy landings - and then him betraying her - betraying her writing.

What a woman.
