. I imagine that for the last decade, she's made little notes whenever she's thought of something clever to write, and this novel is a compilation of those notes pasted over a framework of a somewhat interesting but implausible story. I like wit and I found myself chuckling many times, so I don't know why this constant witticism bothered me so much.
I AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ABOUT THE BOOK THE GATE AT THE STAIRS! The taking notes when she heard something funny.
In fact she used an expression my mother always used. She was from Richmond,Va. and died in 2007 a month before her 89th bday. Nobody I know ever heard of this expression but always laughed when I told them mom said it. It was "queer as Dick's hatband." Was she listening somehow to my mom?????

meenie in so. n.j.
Noticed you liked The Glass Castle, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family (and also a bit dark). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:
