Halter, retired magazine editor:...was born in 1941 Hamilton, Ohio; grew up in Oxford, Ohio, and, later, in Watertown, N.Y....holds a B.A. in history and journalism (1964) and an M.A. in magazine journalism (1966) from Syracuse University....worked as a summer reporter for the Watertown (N.Y.) Daily Times and the Albany (N.Y.) Knickerbocker News....served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Venezuela in 1966-68....worked as assistant editor for National Petroleum News (McGraw-Hill) from 1968 to 1972....joined the staff of Boys' Life magazine in 1972 as Special Features Editor, and in 1983 became Senior Writer. He was also book review editor for Boys' Life....is the author of four books for young readers: Bill Bradley: One to Remember (1974) and Reggie Jackson: All-Star in Right (1975), from Putnam's; and Top Secret Projects of World War II (1978), and Their Backs to the Wall: Famous Last Stands (1980), both from Julian Messner/Simon & Schuster. ...became executive editor of Scouting magazine in 1990, and editor of both Scouting and Exploring magazines in 1994.…retired in 2007 after a 35-year career in the magazine division of the Boy Scouts of America. ...enjoys reading and movies; is a fan of all sports and a Civil War buff....recently published "Letters from the Sixties", a collection of his correspondence from 1960 to 1969 to his parents and later to his wife during his college years, training for and service in the Peace Corps, and the start of his career in magazine journalism.
