A bunch of random stuff, these should be available in English too:

* the Darth Bane novels by Drew Karpyshyn have a "cortosis miner" protagonist, cortosis is a fictional metal in the Star Wars universe:

and there are "lightsaber crystals" (huge list!):
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsabe...
* Tales of Neveryon by Samuel Delany, miner protagonist (he was mentioned in the other thread but not this particular collection), also stories in his collection Driftglass (various stones, jewels), and Empire Star where the narrator is a jewel!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_Star
* the first book in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith - the protagonist's father was a miner. Realistic account of South African mines (IIRC)
* Greg Egan is big on fictional "memory crystals". Several works. Learning the be Me is IIRC a good example.
* anime series Fullmetal Alchemist is basically a wild goose chase for the fictional Philosopher's Stone.
* anime series Sailor Moon uses a 'minerals' naming scheme for villains. Zoisite, Nephrite etc.

I'll try to think of more, hope this helps somewhat :)
