Agreed. The ending severely discredits the whole book, making the thing seem like just a Ruff draft.
Per your review of Bad Monkeys: I'm in the middle of it right now, too. But as far as I can tell, Jane's designed to be an entirely unreliable narrator--the back of the book even flags Holden Caufield.

Not that it erases your problem, it only proves that Ruff himself has an easy alibi. His narrator's lying.
