"Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to
new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom.
Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon.
They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints
on our hearts, and we are never ever the same."

Hello kcasada. I was just spending a pleasant half hour strolling through the avenues and by-ways of LibraryThing land, when I happened to see your library, so I peered through the window for a closer look. How interesting a library! Looking at your books and your tags made me wish to know more about their owner. Alas, the rest of the house was dark. I hope you will consider updating your profile! What fostered your love of language? How came you to discover your talent in that direction? Does it provide your livelihood? Do your parents and any siblings share your talent? Being a one-language girl myself, I found your library fascinating, and was left wanting to know more! Let me know if you decide to turn on the lights in your 'About Me' and 'About My Library' rooms. I would love to stroll by again and look in those windows, too!
Just dropping by to say hi...I did some more adding of my new books from the last couple of months, and updated my tags. I think I'm going to unpack the last few boxes of books tomorrow and try to get them in. I think I have 4 or 5 more boxes in the garage!!
Oops -- I forgot to thank you for adding my library to your list of interesting ones. And I have a question for you -- can you recommend a good English translation of the Q'ran? I sometimes teach world cultures, and I'd like to make sure that I have the proper reference books. What about a good commentary (unbiased, that is) on Islam in general? Karen Armstrong's stuff just seems very opinionated to me (she's a lover of Islamic culture -- not a bad thing, but it makes her unreliable as an academic reference). And since, unlike you, I'm not a polyglot (multilingual), I need both translation and commentaries to be in English. By the way, I'm in awe of your linguistic abilities! I'd invite you to be friends, but I'm an atheist who adores science fiction, so I'm not sure if we'd have much in common other than my curiosity (academic only, I'm afraid) about theology. My dad is a rabbi and a Biblical scholar who made me read the Torah in the original Hebrew/Aramaic, many, many years ago. It was a great experience, b/c it made me aware of how often what Christians refer to as the Old Testament has been subtly mistranslated.
Hi Krista
I can't find the 'Top 20' group! Can you help me out there!
Thanks a bunch!
Kate
Hi there! No, I haven't read Bella, I had to look it up because I hadn't heard of it. There wasn't a lot of description, could you tell me what it's about?
Hello Krista,

Thank you for your question which you posted. Let me tell you first that you have a very interesting library, with a vast array of subjects. Now your remark. I am not a native English speaker, so I can imagine it was not immediately clear what I meant. What I wanted to say is that Baptists often too naively think that Reformed Christians - once convinced that believer's baptism is the only right baptism - could incorporate this immediately in their reformed conception of faith and theology. But the whole point of the Reformation was to lay all the stress on God's grace and God's sovereignty, so that the role of the individual believer could become smaller. If you would look on Wikipedia for the TULIP-scheme of classical reformed theology, you would know what I mean. The practice of believer's baptism requires a personal confession of faith, and this has an anthropocentric (and no theocentric) intention. At least in my country, The Netherlands, baptists often forget to stress the role of God's Spirit in the conversion process and in the baptismal service. I wish Reformed and Baptist Christians could learn more from each other's strength's and weaknesses. By the way I am a Baptist theologian.

Kind Regards

Jelle Horjus, The Netherlands
Thanks for adding me to your list.
Wow, it's a good thing that you went with the Chromophobia book because I already have the other two that were in the suggestions. Strangely enough I hadn't cataloged them for some reason (probably because they were out on loan when I did most of my cataloging of the art books. now I have put them in, of course). Thanks again.
I just wanted to drop you a note and say that I was excited to receive my SantaThing book today. Thanks a million! It looks like a very interesting read.
I just noticed that you have a Shape Note Hymnal....I LOVE Shape note singing. love it, love it, love it. :D
Thank you for adding me to your list of interesting libraries - I feel honored! Looking through your library I can't help but being impressed by your extensive collection of foreign language literature - even some Swedish dictionaries in there! You must be quite the linguist! Some of those Harlequin titles sound so nice, are they? You see, I don't like graphic books at all and I try my utmost to avoid literature like that - quite a challenge these days, that's why I'm asking, are there actually some 'nice' romance novels out there?

Anyway, I can't get enough of this LibraryThing, now I've started adding all my sheet music and my extensive collection of vintage magazines - I've been doing it for hours and yet, I'm only getting started. It's fun though!

Thanks again for your interest and my best wishes to you in Arkansas! PS. We do share The Holy Bible in our collections, but for some reason it doesn't show - oh well, perhaps there are just too many versions of it?
Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries. We seem to share a common interest in the sweeter Harlequin and Silhouette stories. The actual number should increase since I have only entered about a third of my library. I should probably explain that my catalog represents books I actually own, but many, many are still unread.
When looking over your catalog, I noticed many of your books and tags reflect an interest in other languages. I should confess that although I have several books in other languages, I only speak english. I had a few years of German and a semister of French, but other than the most simple of children's books, I can't read them without a dictionary.
Thanks again for the interest.
