About meLike all of you, I LOVE books! I am lucky to live on a farm near a town with a good university, WIU. My DH also reads, but can`t stand my music. Ha! My grandkids are growing up. Four will be at university this fall and two more in high school. Cooking and entertaining are my two other hobbies that keep my busy.

About my libraryMy shelves runneth over. Lots of biography, mysteries, and books on books. I like my books to look at in addition to reading.

There aren't many of us who have "The Portable Faulkner." I love him! You have quite an extensive library. (I'm still adding mine but I don't have nearly as many books as you -- I would love to, though!)
I have been intending to read about Postville and have not only because the book was not in at the library when I checked a couple of times. The book is from before the raid, as I understand it. A relative of mine was pastor there at the time of the raid, and I am not one who glories in the disarray the raid caused, even though I disapprove of illegal immigrants, though I understand their eagerness to make a living. But I will try to read the book, now that you remind me of it.
I have lived in Iowa all my life except for when I was in the Navy and in law school.
Thanks for finding my library interesting. I believe it is unique on LibraryThing since it includes every book I have read in full, and does not include any book I have not read cover to cover. I have yet to find any other library that can make that assertion. Furthermore I have posted "reviews" (really comments) on all but about 1000 of the books I have read, most of such comments being drawn from my post-reading notes--I being of the view that if I spend hours reading a book the least I can do is spend minutes commenting in writing on it so that I won't totally forget what I've learned.
I admit I had to use Google to know what WIU stood for, but if you have access to the libries there I envy you. There are three colleges in Sioux City, and I have access to all of them, plus our public library, and I look on them as a great resource--tho I still use interlibrary loan quite a bit.
I live in Kansas City, MO so not too far from Iowa. I'm not sure why the woman in charge of our book club picked it. I googled Postville after I finished the book - sounds like they've had a lot of trouble there lately!
Thanks, but no hurting, at least not for a long time.

My parents are in Nauvoo for the summer as "volunteers," if you see them tell them i said hi. lol
thanks for the good wishes on vacation! I am looking forward!!! Oh gosh, I have a bunch of books on the kindle to read - very eclectic: The Ambersons by Booth Tarkington, original charlie chan detective novels,, the mapp and lucia books by E. F. Benson, some ruth rendell inspector wexford stories,, Jonathan Coe's the Rain before it falls, and Dylan Thomas' Collected Poems. I am working on Elizabeth George's Careless in Red (Inspector Lynley) and am considering downloading America, America by Ethan Canin and Moscow Rules by Daniel Silva (just heard about it on the Today Show). I am pretty sure I will have whispernet connection as well, so oh boy......
Glad you enjoyed "one minute!" I found it much more interesting than books and movies I have seen on the same subject. Although on the kindles the maps and photos are less than ideal! Getting ready to go on a long vacation and have been packing my kindle with books!!!
I noticed you asked about John Dunning. I have read all his books and love them! I read he is working on another Janeway mystery but has been ill. Here's hoping Mr. Dunning feels better soon and gets writing again!
regarding your author search on Kindle? If you were referring to /Elizabeth George, she has 14 books listed on Kindle....if you were referring another "george", sorry for the error....

I wish I were a grad of that school. My man and I attended an elderhostel there the week the new cookbook was released. Part of our study was culinary arts. The kitchens had all new Viking equipment. We learned to love grits prepared so many ways.Ha!Loved the campus and the southern authors featured that week. Also, the fact that Eudora Welty was schooled there. I hope you read Gourmet mag this month--spotlighting Southern cooking and cooks. Thanks for noticing my book. JWK
I noticed we both have copies of MUW's cookbook. Are you a graduate of the "W". I graduated from there in 1973.
