About meI'm the manager of the The Kiriyama Prize. The Prize was established in 1996 to recognize outstanding books about the Pacific Rim and South Asia that encourage greater mutual understanding of and among the peoples and nations of this vast and culturally diverse region.

About my libraryAs the Kiriyama Prize Manager, I wanted to create a virtual shelf where readers could find all of our previous winners and finalists -- all great books that will intrigue, entertain, educate, and/or enlighten readers who are interested in exploring other cultures.

I see that we share a few books on or about India. I recently finished a book that takes place in India and went straight to the top of my BEST OF list.

I would like to recommend Sacred Games by Vikram Chandra. I'm continually fascinated by India and novels about India.

Shantaram & A Fine Balance were real good but Sacred Games I think held me a little tighter.

Drop me a note if you decide to read it.

I second A_musing - it's really good to see the Kiriyama Prize active on LT. Thanks!
Thanks - this is a great use for LT, and I hope some of the other prizes will follow suit. Please stop in at the Reading Globally discussion group some time, and you'll find a bunch of people very interested in your work.
We judges deliberated long and hard about this year's short list, and
ultimate winner, in fiction. We hope you'll stay tuned for the announcement of the prize winner...and hope you'll take up the book and read it. It's
one of the most wonderful works of fiction I've read in years--and I read
a lot of fiction.
