Re: "Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore." "I'll be honest and say that I really liked this book but didn't love it. I can't put my finger on it but there was something missing from it." Clever of you to put my precise thoughts in your blog. (Liked your thoughtful blog)
Had to laugh at the end of your review of Blackout. Nobody is happy the books were split up but since the sections were enough to pain the wrists holding them while reading I hate to think what a single volumn would have been like! Connie Willis is terrific. ;)
I received a copy of The Death Instinct through Early Reviewers and just posted my review and also read yours. I had much of the same feelings that you did. I couldn't quite put my finger on what the problem was but just never really felt compelled to pick up the book and actually finished two non-fiction books I was reading at the same time before finishing this one. Like you, I finally just decided to power through and finish it. It didn't appear to make a difference that I hadn't read the author's first book and I still haven't decided if I want to get a copy of it or not. I always find it interesting when other readers have the same reaction to a book that I do especially when it isn't a completely positive reaction.
How nice to meet you on Library Thing, too, Kristen! Thanks for the friends invitation!
