About meI've been reading mainly histories for the last few years. I used to read more broadly, and one day I will again.

About my librarySince starting my LibraryThing catalog I've come to realize that I've been grossly underestimating the number of books in my library. As of today (11/13/06) I have probably done far less than half. I have no idea how many I own: many of them have been in boxes for at least 5 years. I am so excited to own my first home: I can now build shelves to bring all my collection out into the light of day.

Finally getting around to reading these emails...I've just finished up teaching my summer institute at Phillips Academy (Andover). The course is on early American history and historical archaeology. I've got other Fisher, just haven't had time to put them in. His work is really wonderful...the way he writes about history and narrative is thought provoking. I was on a panel that he chaired last spring and his comments hit the mark (on the importance of teaching narrative).

I did not study much history at Lawrence... was a philosophy major (Dreher student) with a cultural anthropology focus as well. History became an academic passion after going to London to the Lawrence program there, then I went to Boston College for graduate school in history.

I teach AP United States history during the school year and a summer institute on early American history, historical archaeology, and native American history. I'm north of Boston. Yourself?

I finally got around to changing that LU group picture!
It's funny you immediatly recognized it as sculptured of bunnies... I think I only figured that out sometime my junior year myself :)
Hmmm. I was a high school AP student way back in the 80s, and I remember mostly just liking SciFi, and even talking my 11th grade English teacher into letting me do a research paper on Vonnegut. John Gardner's Grendel was a fave, at least back then, as was Portrait of an Artist.

I'll think about it a bit, and see if any good suggestions come to mind.
re: History books for teenagers. What are some you've assigned so far that went over well?
Hi there,

I provided a cover for Man in Black, so if you have the same one, enjoy! Thanks for dropping me a line (a long time ago)!
