About meI am a retired teacher who spent 31 wonderful years teaching high school students. I taught English for several years and then became the school librarian. I am a bicycle tourist who has just concluded riding the Adventure Cycling Underground Railroad Route from Mobile, AL to Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. I enjoy watching movies, preferably the kind that don't need car chases & explosions to fill the 90 minutes. I just moved to Barrie, Ontario spending my days searching out the many activities available to one in this area. So far, I have been impressed with the services supplied by the Barrie Public Library, especially the inter-library loan service.

About my libraryI am trying to reduce the size of my collection by donating the book I finish to a friend, a library or a charity for resale. I never expect to reread a book for there are so many I have not had the time to read that are sitting on my shelf or on the public library shelf or in a book store. I read many volumes of military history and when I finish a title, I donate it to the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. When I really wish to escape and read something that requires little thought, I read Western fiction. My favourite writer of this genre is Louis L"Amour, especially the books he wrote before he became fixated on Native mysticism.

I read your review of Moodie's book and I wondered if you had read her sister's books. Her name was Catherine Parr Trail. They are both about settling in the bush, but their attitudes were completely different. I have gone on to read other settler's books as well and find them quite interesting, for instance Mrs. John Graves Simcoe and Mary O'Brien.
