About meI am a 60 year old attorney practicing primarily in the areas of Chapter 11 reorganization and commercial litigation. I have been a practicing attorney since 1986. For about 12 years prior to becoming an attorney I was an academic economist.

I am a convert to Judaism of a conservative/traditionalist variety, but with a strong egalitarian bent.

I have an extensive background in classical liberal, libertarian and anarchist theory.

My hobbies are collecting books, growing succulent plants and taking care of a household full of pets.

About my libraryEverything listed in my librarything library I own. My entire "holdings" is about 8,000 volumes, with only the most accessible ones being listed here.

The explanation for this book acquiring insanity is that I have been operating out of the pre-internet mentality of "Gee, that looks like an interesting book, and it's in one of my fields of interest. I bet if I don't buy that copy now I'll never see one again." Gradually I am starting to come to grips with the reality of many volumes being available in electronic form and others being always available through bookfinder.com or equivalent. But decades of conditioning are hard to break.

Although I have been a member of Librarything for a couple of years, I have just started actively participating. Hence, most of my energy has been expended in adding books to my library here rather than in reviewing, tagging or commenting on them. That will change over the next six months. If, in the interim, anyone is aware of a good librarything discussion of any of the volumes I've added to my library, please let me know.

Update: I have recently been going through my library and adding the tag "Top 100 books." The problem is that I think I've already marked over 100 volumes. Until I get this corrected, read "Top 100 books" as "If you're interested in this field, you really should read this volume."

Thanks for the suggestion; I picked up Realizing Freedom on my way home, and now I can't put it down. I'd love to hear any other recommendations you have.
Thanks for adding BannedBooksLibrary to your Interesting Libraries. Happy Reading!
Volney, Say and Tracy are ignored today because their body of work refutes the current government orthodoxy which is based on the Rousseau's Social Contract. Along with Cabanis, they constituted a school of thought known as Ideology (the science or study of ideas) which is founded in Natural Law and championed free markets, representative government, private property and emancipation of the slaves. These four original Ideologues opposed Bonaparte's decision to eliminate the separation of church and state (the Concordat) and to declare a heredity empire (Volney was one of only 3 senators to vote against it). Bonaparte refered to the Ideologues as "philosophical dreamers" and broke up their little group at the Institute. A generation or so later, a certain German philosopher came across Bonaparte's conflict with the Ideologues. Realizing their theories refuted his own work, this German philosopher took up Bonaparte's pejorative definition of the word Ideologue and spread it across the globe. That German philosopher is none other than Karl Marx...
Hello again Lawecon,

I've just begun collecting Bastiat so many thanks for your insights. I'm particularily interested in French language volumes. I'll see what I can turn up on this side of the pond. He is well known over here for his free market, anti-Socialist writings. But the French have pretty well forgotten about Bastiat's predecessors: Volney, Say and Tracy. All Zee Best, TCW
When I was an undergrad I read a lot of Phil. of Econ. stuff. There is even a journal called Philosophy of Economics, IIRC.
lawecon,
I see you added me to your interesting libraries list; thank you for your interest. Incidentally, I'm an economist (academic, natch), though I don't use this account for professionally-relevant books.
