I have just purchased the Feminine Middlebrow Novel 1920's to 1950's by Nicola Humble and see that you have a copy too. Also notice that you are in the Virago and Persephone groups. I look forward to reading your posts there.

Anyhow, I love books with old photographs, and I have a few I would recommend. Philip Ziegler has done a very handsome book, Britain Then & Now, using old photographs; also, I highly recommend Ziegler's book London at War (this one is a history and not a book of photos). Another book of old London photos that I've always been fascinated by is Sherlock Holmes in London: A Photographic Record of Conan Doyle's Stories, by Charles Viney. This is a book of old photos, printed in sepia, with accompanying excerpts from Conan Doyle. If you don't care for Holmes, then the book would probably be a bit much, but the photos are certainly worth a look, I think.
I'm also very interested in the social history of the Blitz, and there are a couple other books that I recommend: London at War, by Clive Hardy and Nigel Arthur, which contains photographs from something called the Hulton-Deutsch Collection; the other book is The Blitz: London Then & Now, by John Neville. I can spend hours with these books!
I'm pretty sure all of these books have been published in the UK, so you might well run across them in libraries or book shops. I have some other social history books that relate to London, as well (they should be under my tag "London," if you'd like to have a look.)
I guess I should apologize for my long-winded reply to your query! (That's what happens when I get enthusiastic about my books!)
Best regards,
Maggie
