About meI am a MLIS student and teacher working in a special library. I love books and can't get enough reading. I tend to collect more than I can handle - but it's a good thing for sure. I taught 4th and 5th grade for a while, so I have a bundle of YA books too.
For 2008 I tried not buy any books. For real. I read what I own or got it from the library. I did allow myself a couple books when I was on vacation. :)
For 2009 - I am letting new books in -- and borrowing a bunch -- I am trying really hard to complete my 999 w/out any overlaps!

I am working hard to share my love of reading with my little guy -- of course I can retell Mrs. Wishy Washy by heart these days. But cozying up and "talk about it" [as he says]-- there's nothing better than that.

About my libraryNon-fiction, cookbooks, scrapbooking & art books with a healthy dose of fiction. Boxes of YA books in the garage until the little guy is a reader. Many of the titles have been with me since I was a kiddo.

I read Garden Spells and was charmed by it. It had a light touch of fantasy and a little danger for a fun mix. I have to admit I don't read much chick lit and I have since bought The Girl Who Chased the Moon for my high school since I liked it so much. I hope it's as good as Garden Spells. Thanks for bringing this author to me. That's one of the fun things about SantaThing. I hope you were as lucky with the choices made for you.
Thanks so much for the interesting books you chose for me. I read the rave reviews of other LTers for The Tiger's Wife but somehow it never made it to my shelf. The same can be said for Alice I Have Been. This is just the type of book I would not choose for myself but I am excited to have it now to read. I have never heard of Garden Spells but expect that it, too will be marvelous. This has been such a fun and exciting event. I'm glad that the folks at LT set this up for us.

BTW, I would have sent thanks much more promptly except that Santa gave my an unwanted gift of a whopping head cold! Better now to be able to actually see the computer screen than a blur.
Hi! You were my Santathing - thanks and Merry Christmas! I received The Book of Air and Shadows (which looks very interesting and is by someone I've not read) and A Feast of Crows which I understand LT picked instead of the one you had selected because of a lack of availability. I see the comment re Acevedo and will look up his stuff, for sure, but wondered what the other book you had ordered was so I can keep my eyes open for it in the New Year in case it does become available (curiousity is driving me crazy!!)
I just got my Santathing books from you! Thank you so much! I've never heard of either but both look great. Hope you make out as well as I did.
How did your 2008 vow to not buy any books go? I made a similar pledge this year (only one book a month for myself) and flubbed once-you can't set me loose in a Half Priced Books.
Thanks for the add. :)
How wonderful, O Lord, are the works of your hands,
the sun and the stars, the valleys and the hills, the rivers
and lakes all disclose your presence. The beasts of the
field, the birds of the air bespeak your wondrous will.
In your goodness you have made us able to hear the
music of the world, a divine voice sings
through all creations.

- Hebrew prayer

I was your Secret Santa person and I just wanted you to know that I read "I Love You, Beth Cooper" during my recent vacation and absolutely LOVED it! My first A+ book of 2009! So thank you, thank you, thank you! It was pretty much perfect from beginning to end and I think I giggled throughout. Perfect pick! I'll be writing my review soon ... more people must read this book!
Good Morning! I added your list to the 999 blog sidebar. Good luck with your challenge!
Thanks for your kind comment! I've been having fun looking through your library too ... though it is taking me a bit of time!
Yes it was me! I'm so glad you liked them! I had so much fun looking over your library and thankfully we shared something like 56 books, so that definitely helped me get started! Enjoy and happy holidays! :D

I am Jenners26 -- your Secret Santee! I just got my books from Amazon. You did a great job!!! At first I didn't realize what it was and thought my husband had somehow pulled off something amazing and bought me books I would really like for Christmas. Then I saw the gift message and realized what it was. You did a great job of picking books for me! I am so excited! Thank you for being such a great Secret Santa! I'll let you know when I am done them ... but don't hold your breath -- I've been a really slow reader lately! Thank you thank you thank you!

Best wishes for a happy holiday season and happy reading! I hope your Secret Santa does as well as you did!
