Hello, lean55. I have not spoken to you in a long time and I would like to know any updates about your African-American library. I also would like to ask you about working in Black Studies libraries. I am almost finished with my MLIS degree -- one semester to go! Woohoo! I am also planning for a Ph.D. in Africana literature to better qualify for a specialization in a Black Studies library. I hope to work at the Houston Public Library's Gregory School Library of African-American Studies while obtaining this degree.
Hi, how are you?
I enjoy working with the teens and planning teen programming, but I believe that Black Studies is my true calling. I am looking forward to transferring to HPL's new research library devoted to African-American studies and history. It is also my goal to get a Black Studies degree. I am still unsure whether to focus on public or university libraries. I agree with you on the Digital Divide -- I hope that my experience in Black Studies can help bridge this gap. It is true that today's youth take to technology like ducks to water -- that is part of what makes teen services so fun. However, I am discovering that lack of access and skills are only part of the Digital Divide. The other part is lack of motivation to use it to its fullest potential. The great opportunities offered by the Internet don't mean anything if people don't take advantage of them. Looking up rap lyrics, myspace photos and online games is fine, but I would like to get African-American youth more interested in using the Internet to study their history.
This book creates a paradigm shift in how we learn and make assumptions. Very interesting.
Thanks! It's nice to be appreciated!
Thanks for the comment! I found the picture on google. I think the quotes are pretty cool too!
I see you really like vampires...me too.
Yay, a comment, thanks. We're getting ready for Halloween too. Are you dressing up? I am! :) I am reading low-brow now, "The Nanny Diaries."
The book "What You Owe Me" still bugs me to this day. But, the more I think about it, the more I think that's the point.
Hello,
I am thinking of reading Clarence Thomas autobiography. Did you like it?
