About meI am a librarian for a public school district in Illinois. I've been doing this "gig" for 27 years, mostly at the elementary level. The past 7 years have brought me onto the junior high and high school scene. I have 2 libraries that I'm in charge of - one for a K-4 population, and the other for high school students. I see opposite ends of the reading spectrum this way. That part is cool, but driving between buildings (and towns), not so much. I enjoy stories of adventure, especially when the protagonist overcomes the odds. I also like mysteries, and good YA literature with strong, assertive characters. I like to laugh, so stories that tickle my funny bone are good too. I read fiction, primarily; but enjoy nonfiction too. Apart from reading, I'm interested in art, cats, and sometimes I like to cook! I'm married, and my husband likes it on those days when I like to cook. :)

About my libraryMy home library is small, since I do alot of borrowing. I am a librarian after all! If I own it, I've tagged it "home." I'm looking forward to networking with those whose reading interests are like mine. I like all kinds of books. Some of my favorites are: The Kite Runner, The Grapes of Wrath, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, and Miracle on the Andes.

Hi, jojo. I enjoyed reading your "About Me" section. I just retired after 30 some-odd (and sometimes VERY odd!) years as a k-12 librarian. I too experienced the "2 libraries in 2 towns" - for awhile there I had 3 libraries in 3 towns. Wasn't that fun?? Whatever you need at the moment is always in the other building in the other town. Maddening, but it always happened. Still, I wouldn't trade it for anything. (Well, maybe a new building that combined everybody in one place) Have a good year. Mary Lou
Just so you know, you should not refer to your fanny in a British group --- it means a slightly different part of the female anatomy in Britain!
I'm thinking on the request -- I've read a fair amount of British YA but nothing particularly recent. I'll get back to you if I come up with something.
Hi Jojo--
I am familiar with your part of Illinois. My first serious college-crush was from Decatur! I also used to work at the Clinton Nuke Plant with a guy from Harristown, and when I was an insurance underwriter, I had some agency clients in Decatur (yes, my employment history reads like the Encyclopedia Brittanica--I should have just become a librarian:)).
Hi,

I don't have any scriptural basis for believing that God would respond quicker to more prayer, although there is a parable that Jesus told in Luke 18:2-8 about a request being answered because of persistence--but not necessarily faster. I might add (with my pentecostal/charismatic background) that I wouldn't interpret this passage to mean faster, nor do I think most p/c pastors would.

I enjoy our exchanges, and am glad that you are happy with your present church.
Hi,

Yes, you've helped me understand your views more fully. To me, it sounds as if your issue with AG is more the particular pastor than the movement, and I suspect that in some conservative Lutheran churches you might find some of the same. In fact, lots of evangelical and fundamentalist churches share values and practices with the AG.

There is scriptural precedent for earnestly praying multiple times for God's intervention, but I understand your experience.

From your background I expect that you adopted your attitude regarding inerrancy from the AG, or perhaps post AG in the Lutheran church. But, as you know, the AG is not against prophecy as in 1 Cor. 14. Did you know that there is a branch of the Mo Synod that is firmly planted in the Charismatic Renewal? So, not all Lutherans are anti prophecy.

I'd be curious to know why your church left the MO Synod. Have they joined another synod? Would your church be more like the Wisconsin synod or the old Norwegian synod?
Hi Librarianjojo,

Thanks for the replay. It's good to have a background to provide context for comments. My background is similar in some ways, but also has lots of differences. I was raised Mo Synod Lutheran, but fell out while in college. I returned to an LCA Lutheran church while engaged. I remained a Lutheran until 1979 when I was directed to an independent charismatic church. I've attended both pentecostal and charismatic churches since then. I have also taught at an ELCA Lutheran college, so I sort of know the liberal side of things, too.

I'm interested in which pentecostal church you were attending. Was it part of a pentecostal denomination? What sorts of things did you feel were non scriptural? Did you form your idea of biblical inerrancy before attending a pentecostal church, or subsequently while attending a Lutheran church? What Lutheran synod is your church a part of?

Thanks
Saxhorn
