About meI am a children's librarian and lover of all kinds of books. I also love history and theology.

Other than books, my favorite things are dogs, musicals, all kinds of plays, chocolate, websurfing and travel.

About my librarySince I am a children's librarian, I come across all kinds of great books. I have a section tagged for new books (all children's) I enter these when we receive them at the library. I keep them for a month.
Besides the new childen's books, I have included mostly my favorites over the years. Of course, I have a lot of favorites.
My adult reading interests include theology, worldview, history, Christian Fiction and humor.

Great to hear from you, Lou. Congrats on your 50th birthday. Sounds like a fun time spent with your relatives. All is going well here in Ohio. While the job has certainly had its frustrations, I'm really enjoying it overall. It's challenging but rewarding as well. My first summer reading went well. I really enjoying reading reviews and ordering books. I've started a baby story time which has become quite successful. I've "borrowed" several ideas from Greenville that I picked up during my internship so you all are influencing my little Ohio library up here! :) I'm looking forward to a vacation soon which is greatly needed. The weather is finally getting cooler here. This is the first week it has finally felt like fall here with 60 degree weather. Well I guess that is about all for now. Check in anytime, Lou. Always great to hear from you! :) Jennifer
lou, thanks for your input. The church has a great committment to aid the needy. It's a joy to read about others efforts and an inspiration for us. Rome is called a gateway city as we absorb people from all over the globe who are hoping for a better life. Especially the boat people that land daily from Africa and those who come for ex-iron country nations are many. Continue to supply me with other titles. You are a great help.
Lou, just flashed through your recently added titles and was interested in one called "Trolls..." about the church. Of course I can't remember the name and can't get back into your list. Can you help me there? It sounds very good. I'd like a review as you have given me some outstanding tips. Thanks for my confused, overheated, middle of August request.
My sister is a librarian but your Batgirl picture is way cooler! misskate asked you about Chronicles of the Kings and now thanks to you it looks like I will have to read that too.
Lou,
It's an encouragement to see a librarian looking for excellent resources for the children's department. Just wanted to thank you for your work.
:) Jessica
Lou, tell me about the chronicles of the king by Lynn Austin. I see you have just added these to your holdings. We have some of her works so I wonder if it's worth buying these also.
Misskate
Lou,

Great to hear from you. I do remember Emily Weeks. I'm pretty sure we had a class together last spring.

Things here are going well. I'm busy, busy, busy. I'm trying to get the collection weeded as it hasn't been done in a long time. I'm also working on developing baby programming, school age programming, and figuring out preschool programming. Also I have a myriad of other responsibilities. I'm really enjoying everything about the job. Thankfully I have great ladies to work with each day. I find myself drawing on my internship experiences all the time. I don't know what I would have done without all I learned from you and everyone in Greenville.

I just spent four days with my nephews and had a fabulous time. I'm about 2 1/2 hours from them. They are growing up so fast and I don't want to miss out on some of this fun time with them. Today I went to my nephews' school and ate lunch with them. Fun! :)

Great to hear from you. Keep in touch. If you have any good ideas for collection development, pass them on. I can use all the help I can get!

Jennifer
Lou,

So I'm assuming you got the job in CD? That's fabulous.

All is going well here. I enjoy the job but I still have much to learn. Yesterday was a rough day but today can only be better. Unfortunately I am my worst critic and tend to be way to hard on myself. We'll see how today goes.

The best thing about living here is seeing my nephews on a regular basis. I saw them two weekends ago and will see them again this weekend. I'm enjoying that a lot.

Story times start next week. Right now we are just trying to keep our heads above water with the 40+ school classes that come each month. October through December should be busy, busy, busy.

Stay in touch,

Jennifer
Hey, Lou, Hope all is going well in Greenville. I started my first librarian job yesterday at the Ida Rupp Public Library in Port Clinton, Ohio. I'm the youth services supervisor for a small to medium sized library. It's going to be challenging and fun all at once. I'm already using some of the things you all taught me during my internship. When you get a chance, could you email me (teacherbuch@yahoo.com) and give me the email addresses of several of your cohorts there? I need to ask Jennifer P. or Leigh R. about Bouncing Babies and I'll probably be calling on you for collection development advice. Thanks. Any news on the CD job? Take care of yourself. Jennifer
Hello, thanks for messaging me, its great to know there is another Lou librarian out there!
Lou,

Any news on the job? I wanted to thank you for recommending the Hilary McKay books. I'm hooked. I read the first one (Saffy's Angel) and listened to the second one (Indigo's Star) while driving from Michigan to SC last week. I have the third one on CD to listen to while driving back to Michigan this week. They are great!

I moved all my stuff from Columbia into storage here in Greenville. I'm heading back to Michigan Thursday. I have a job interview on Friday in Ohio (the second interview). We'll see. I'm still sending out resumes and trying to get a job.

Hope all is going well.

Jennifer
Hey Lou,

I just wanted to let you know I created an account today.

Thanks!

Michelle H.
Hey, Lou,

All is well here. I'm hanging here in Columbia working on packing my apartment and catching up on my reading. No interviews yet but I've been sending resumes out to Ohio and Michigan in the hopes of getting called. I'm actually heading to Michigan on Saturday for a week.

I heard about Kristin and her moving. I know she'll be missed. Are you going for the CD job? Let me know how that goes.

Thanks again for everything. Keep in touch.

Jennifer
I can't heartily recommend any craft books, only certain crafts. I've never found a book that wasn't disappointing in some way. I think craft books should vary in difficulty from easy to difficult, by that meaning, if the idea is origami, then learning certain folds should make it possible to fluff off a craft, or challenge yourself. Instead, I find that most craft books hit one certain level of accomplishment and you have to find the book that best suits your level of proficiency.

Also, in the books that cover only one type of craft, like paper mache', there is a great deal of repetition. Can't recommend that, either.

So, I'm sticking with fiction on my list...for now.

Trish
Lou,
Thanks for being on top of things!
