Thanks for the note a while ago. . . been traveling. I see some activity on dates appearing again. Think it's time to bump this problem out again and see it it catches someone's eye. It's reproducible. I can demonstate it in about 5 seconds when asked!
I enjoyed reading about Ivan and Alys' true feelings, too. Sadly, I can't afford to by new copies, so I'm dependent on our county libraries' collections and local library's Friends' used bookstore. Except for Cordelia's Honor, which was a gift, all of my Vorkosigan books came from that store. None of the libraries have all of the earlier Vorkosigan books.

How many times has Ivan saved Miles' bacon?
Thank you. You confirmed what I guessed when I started rereading KOMARR tonight -- Lord Miles Vorkosigan's immediate interest in Ekaterin Vorsoisson and his pursuit of her in A CIVIL CONTRACT reminds me very much of Lord Peter Whimsey's immediate interest in Harriet Vane. She, like Ekaterin, is the victim of an emotionally abusive relationship and reluctant to start a new relationship. (Speaking of ACC, which I just finished rereading this morning, Bujold's homage to the climax of Heyer's THE UNKNOWN AJAX tickled me just as much as it did the first time. Richars speculations about Miles' treatment of Ekaterin and her current compliance reminds me of the last chapter of Heyer's SPRIG MUSLIN.)

Yes! I checked out CAPTAIN VORPATRIL'S ALLIANCE last month and loved it! I'd recently reread Heyer's COTILLION, and Ivan reminded me of Freddy Stanton. Nice that Ivan gets to be less of an idiot in that one.
