About meI'm recently retired and loving it.
I love TV sports because a football, hockey, or soccer game will give me a good 3 hours of uninterrupted reading time. My DH is also into movies and I must admit I often get swept into watching. We also enjoy nature and the outdoors, travel, and sports like cycling and x-country skiing. We are so hoping to become grand-parents.

About my libraryAll of these are books I have read. Many of the books I have posted here are from the public library...I simply could not keep up to my reading passion through purchasing. My bookclub is atypical in that we do not all read one title, rather we bring what we have and exchange.
The books you see in 'my library' are only recent, all of this year's (2008+) readings and only some from the past (those I own)(or those I loved so much I must add). There are several older bookcases, classics, children's, and professional, that I have not entered into LT, but plan to sometime. I have always been a prolific reader.
My book ratings are strictly personal and reflect the level to which I enjoyed the reading. This is, of course, sometimes influenced by circumstance, place, and time. I do not attempt to rate the literary merit of a book.

Hi again!

I just added a new vegetarian cookbook to my library - Neelam Batra's 'The Indian Vegetarian: Flavors for the American Kitchen'. I'm really enjoying it and thought if you liked Indian flavours it might be worth a try. :)

Take care,
darynne
Just checking in to see how you and your family are doing.

Thinking of you and sending all good wishes.

Linda
I'm simply stopping by to send a hug your way. I'm so sorry that your family is going through so much!

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Linda
Hi loosha!

Bryan Ayangolu's "125 Best Vegetarian Recipes" is pretty good; Deborah Madison's "Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone" is fantastic.

I also love everything the Moosewood Collective puts out, so keep an eye out for those too!

Noticed you liked The Glass Castle, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family (and also a bit dark). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

i know! aren't the titles great? :) i see you read 'olive kitteridge' and loved it too! i absolutely adored it!! let me know how you like 'the angel's game' i have it on my wishlist!! happy reading!
loosha;
No worries about S & H. I'm happy to do this for a fellow Cohen fan. I have another one ready to ship off to another LT matey. No problemo!~!
I am hopeful to get at least one of them off to you on Monday. Just need to pick up some jewel covers. I have the discs.
Don't you just love LT. It has been very therapeutic for me.
I've met some really cool people on here and people who share my passions.
You can't talk about them with people who could care less.
I wish I had found it years ago. (I don't even know how long it has been a fixture here.)
I will catch you later. Still looking for the soundtrack. That is the one I really want to get to you.

Lorraine;
I am sorry I cannot find my "Pump Up the Volume" soundtrack. It could be in the car or perhaps one of my kids "borrowed" it. But I did find my Leonard Cohen CD with "Everybody Knows" on it (by him) and I also found "Blue Alert" (no Everybody Knows on it). I don't know if it is Concrete Blonde that you are so fond of or the song.
"Blue Alert" is a CD of all Leonard Cohen works sung by Anjani and was produced by him also.
Anyway, if you want me to burn either of these just message me back. It would save you 10.00 to 17.00 depending. But you would also have to wait for it. In the meantime I will continue to look for the soundtrack.
later dayz,
belva
Hi Lorraine;
Just me, belva here.
I wanted to let you know that I put an amazon.com
link for each album that Concrete Blonde did
"Everybody Knows" on Cait86's thread. So run check
it out because they do sound different to me and you
may prefer one over the other.
If I can find my "Pump Up the Volume" CD (the good
Lord only knows where it is at the moment) I would be
happy to burn a copy and send it off to you.

Hi
I am planning to finish Come Thou Tortoise tonight. It is very funny. I love the way the narrator seems to be daringly transparent...Maybe it is a Newfie thing? I just love this book!
Hi
You and I seem to like similar books. I enjoyed your comments about The Book Thief which I just finished reading last night. Have you read anything by Jeffrey Eugenides. I really love his style and have just begun The Virgin Suicides. I also love Anne Michaels and plan to read Winter's Vault. I hope it is as good as Fugitive Pieces.
It all depends on how you are coming up from the Grand Canyon. I am on the eastern edge of the state, so if you come up through Page, AZ you can see four corners, Newspaper Rock, Canyonlands, Arches, and there is a great campground just north of Blanding UT called Nizhoni Campground that is wonderful. Though I just realized that this early in the year it might not be open. It is up in the mountains so it is a nice retreat after the desert.
I definitely would say get out of your car. There are a lot of short hikes around that I have taken my children on, so not to difficult. All the truly amazing sites need walking to see.
If you come up on the western side of the state you have to stop at Zion National Park. Or you could even take Hwy 20 and cross over, seeing Bryce Canyon NP and Cedar Breaks.
Basically whatever route you choose you will find something great. Lake Powell is nice, by the middle of May the water is starting to get warm.
I hope you have a great trip, it sounds fun!
Carol Shields is another author that I have yet to try - so many books, so little time!
LOL Well I guess I am just going to have to read all of Atwood then!! You have a great library, by the way - I am envious of all the Canadian Literature :)

Happy Easter!
Hi Lorraine!

Thanks for your message on my profile! I haven't read Atwood's The Tent, or The Robber Bride, actually. I am just beginning to discover her novels - but I have always loved her poetry! The Robber Bride sounds excellent; I'm sure I will read more of Atwood this year, and if not, then I am going to make reading all of her novels one of my goals for next year. Do you have a favourite?

Have a good week!

Cait :)
Thank you for your help! Posted first image.

TC Boyle is one of the only writers whose work I will buy without even asking what the subject is. I have pretty much loved everything of his I've read and I've read all the novels and own the giant TC Boyle Stories so I've read lots of those as well.

Oh, he's just great.
Hi!

I'm glad to see someone else who loves Louis de Bernieres; reading his books is always a lovely experience. In fact, I see we have lots of books in common. Please feel free to send me any recommendations!

Thank you so much! It is so frustrating. I wish someone would post a video blog or something to show us how to do certain items. Reading is one thing seeing is quite another.

I will try your suggestion tonight.

Thank you again.

Hello loosha,

I will start Little Bee today. I have just finished The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende which I adored. I put Red Dog Red Dog on my wishlist after listening to an interview with the author on CBC radio. It sounds like it's another one with horrible misery and violence, but also an important part of Canadian history. I will let you know what i thought about Little Bee when I finish. Happy reading !
It's Fala at the F.D.R. Memorial in D.C. (wow that's a lotta periods). Toto = Scottish Terrier = Fala = F.D.R.
