1/2 Star: There are two levels of poor book; this is the lower level.
1 Star: A poor book.
1 1/2 Stars: A poor book, die-hard fans of the author and setting will be disappointed; everyone else will give up after a few pages.
2 Stars: A fine book, but suitable only for fans of the author or setting.
2 1/2 Stars: A fine book, suitable for fans of the author, setting, or genre.
3 Stars: A good book. Fans of the genre will particularly enjoy it, but most readers will find this worthy.
3 1/2 Stars: A good book. Well worth the read.
4 Stars: A great book. Notions of genre, author, and so on are irrelevant. If you like words, set in type and printed on a page, you'll love this.
4 1/2 Stars: If you see this rating, I'm just being indecisive.
5 Stars: An excellent book. If you don't think this book is great, I will have trouble identifying you as a member of the same species.
