About me.. academic and londoner: programme director for library and information science at city university london, honorary lecturer in information science at ucl

.. focus on history/philosophy of information, medical information, information resources

.. interested in collections, liberal arts

About my library.. i started using librarything to catalog my personal library and information science collection but then found myself adding all my other books (this is ongoing) .. i have moved over to the dark side and embraced ebooks but alas i will never be a minimalist, as i usually track down a hard copy too

.. i believe that if you take all the books off the shelf and rearrange them, there will be more space than before

.. i tag my books according to 1) subject 2) place - look under the tags tab to see a list of tags which i use (try library-science and information-science for starters)

.. the exceptions to this are:

1) type of book - i have used tags such as 'dictionary' or 'encyclopaedia'

2) timeframe - i am using 'ancient-world' and 'prehistory' to denote both a subject and a timeframe at the moment - i may add other timeframes as i add in more of my books

.. lis students can ignore most of my catalog, and use my collection to identify books relevant to modules which i direct or contribute to - i have added module codes to the "comments" field - so searching for a module code within the comments field will generate a list of what i think currently complements the module content.. please note that these lists will only be complete for modules totally under my control (LISF and LAPIS for 2011-2012) - remember to also check with other module leaders and presenters for their recommendations - more specific reading lists are usually provided by speakers for individual classroom sessions

.. i update course recommendations all year round, so please check regularly for new additions

.. the tag 'background-reading' (in the comments field) denotes books which are suitable for those wishing to gain an insight into the field of LIS, or indeed as summer reading for those intending to join a masters programme

.. the tag 'dissertation' (in the comments field) denotes books useful for those undertaking a master's dissertation in LIS related fields - these books are also suitable for those interested in research methods

.. the tag 'liberal-studies' (in the comments field) denotes something you may like to read for general education, as an accompaniment to your LIS course

.. you can, of course, search my entire catalog using your own keywords, or use my tags if any of them interest you

.. here are the module codes and the course titles:
