Hi,

Was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Saw you liked Paris Trout, and I thought you might like my novel since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Doujinshi are sort of like graphic novels. They're fan made comic books, so they follow whatever story line the author chooses. Some may have to do with the quest, others can be side stories. I've removed several from my list as I'm about to sell them.
It's nice to see that someone else has Shimpan Yubiwa Monogatari. Since you had question marks by the translators I thought I'd let you know they are Seta Teiji and Tanaka Akiko. The books are illustrated by Terashima Ryuichi.
Good morning, Mary -

I'm only a modest student of Japanese but these texts/dictionaries are ones I refer to frequently:

1. Kodansha's Effective Japanese Usage Dictionary.

2. The 2 dictionaries of Japanese grammar by Seiichi Makino (really superb).

3. Merriam Webster's J-E Learner's Dictionary. It's title doesn't do it justice. There's actually a lot on offer here to all but advanced students.

4. And when the Webster's doesn't do the trick, my Cannon Wordtank (IDF-3000) comes to the rescue.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers,

Glenn
Ah, well if I'd known your Russian was good enough to read it in the original I would have recommended that right off the bat! Just remember that the Prologue is in the voice of a somewhat addlepated and confused lecturer and you'll find it hilarious. I might also mention that Bely, a moskvich, was no fan of Piter, and his attitude conveys itself!
Hi, Mary -- nice to see another aficionado of Russian! I don't know which translation you looked at; the David McDuff is probably the better of the two, but of course neither capture's Bely's remarkable Russian. And you have to give it more than a couple of pages -- for one thing, the first couple of pages are a parody of officialese that could be offputting! Give it time to get into the story; it's worth it.
