About my libraryOn ratings:
If I own a book it's practically a given I adore it, so ratings are based on re-readability and usefulness. They're not a judgment of a work's quality, just an expression of how pleased I am to have a copy readily at hand. Otherwise I've no idea how to justify the impudence of giving the King James Bible three stars or Charles Dickens four.

Three stars means "I am very pleased to own this book." Adjust up or down as necessary. I do not rate books I have not read.

On reviews:
My one-sentence reviews are intended to be succinct memory aids, not criticism. When there isn't much space a single word makes a big difference, and my word choice isn't always the best. Feel free to make a suggestion.

Recently I have noticed that several of my reviews (6 as of this writing) have been blue flagged as "Not A Review". This clearly contradicts LT policy. LT's help page on reviews states, "Blue flags are NOT appropriate for short reviews". The flag operation itself states, "'Not a review' is not intended for short reviews, poorly-written reviews or reviews you disagree with." Therefore I'm happy to say my short reviews are, indeed, real reviews and I hope those who disagree with me will courteously refrain from flagging them otherwise.

dorothy: v. intr. To travel from the normal, everyday world to a fantasy world. "Dorothy dorothied from Kansas to Oz." v. tr. To move another person from the normal, everyday world to a fantasy world. "The tornado dorothied Dorothy to Oz." Common in YA fantasy and Stephen R. Donaldson. Harry Potter is a hidden world, not a dorothy.

Stopping by to see what you are up to!
Happy you joined, and looking forward to interesting conversation!
Just stopping in to say hi & see how your cataloging is coming along.
"The Scraped Knee Brigade" great tag you've applied to Cyteen. What do you mean by it?
There is a Medieval Manuscript group here. I see that Christopher De Hammel and J. J. G. Alexander continue to be the most popular scolors of illumination.
Oh wow. Love the Index of scripts. Thankyou.
I have a general understanding of what was done but I can't give you any direct citations. Off the top of my head, Mark Drogin's Medieval Calligraphy is the best I know of about the practice of calligraphy in the middle ages but this is a few decades old and there may be something better out by now. For example back in 84 some scholars were still stating that when a book was copied they started with page 1 of and already bound book. Not so... the book to be copied was completely unsown and dealt with quire by quire. The parchments being copied onto went through numerous hands. (did you know that parchment turns dark where bare hands touch it so all the calligraphy and illumination had to be done with wrists not touching the page?) Now if only I could remember where I got that tidbit of information. Let me brows through my bibliography and slide collection for more info.

There are other libraries on here with more updated collections. I wish I had the energy to make a list and go haunt the university library.

Meanwhile I am catching up on the science fiction I haven't read in the last 15 years
No the Dog and fox cub are just a pic I found on the 'net. I am slave to no animals.
Thanks for accepting my invitation. Fascinating collection of history books I see. *wipes away drool* My own focus has been on art history. Take care, Aelith
That was fast!
I see. Well that will certainly speed things up. I shouldn't stand here talking when you are working so hard. Don't let me slow the process!
Hi Meersan!

How did you manage to enter so many books in one day? Very impressive. And to tag them too, not just enter them....
Don't miss this Sheji thread:

Meersan-ji,

If you are trying to locate Sheji Associates on LT, simply look at my Friends list. Every single one of my Friends is from Sheji, with the exception of the SpokaneMountaineers*. The only person who has a different avatar on LT than Sheji is Dave. Suzdal was taken on LT, so Dave goes by CyanDag on this site (& Suzdal on Sheji).

*My husband & I are the SpoMo librarians. The club's books are all in our home, & my husband is the one who cataloged them on LT after he saw how great LT was for our personal library.
Hi Meersan!

Ahh, so you have now discovered LT! Isn't LT great? I just Friended you, & am looking forward to browsing your library. You'll note nearly all my LT Friends are Shejidan Associates -- we enjoy being in contact here as well as on Sheji. Both are wonderful sites!
