Did you finish The Magic Mountain?
I read Siddhartha first as well. I think it should be required reading in high schools. Dream on.
I also read that article on Wilde, only a month or so before I read Dorian Gray. It was assigned to me for a British Literature class, though I'd had it on my shelf for awhile. I enjoyed it immensely. I do recommend you read Hesse. Maybe start with Steppenwolf. I think you'd enjoy it. I love all of his work that I've read, but my favorites of his are "Demian" and "Narcissus and Goldmund".
Oh, I see you're already a Salon member! You should join the Magic Mountain read. It starts Oct. 22.
