About meI'm a writer of historical fiction. You can find out more about my books about Laura Ingalls Wilder's ancestors at www.melissawiley.com .

I'm also the stay-at-home mom of six young children. We are homeschoolers and love our "living-books" lifestyle. I blog about books, family adventures, and home education at Here in the Bonny Glen.

About my libraryMy husband is a writer too, and we joke that our decorating style is "Early Library." Books everywhere!

I'm going to list books here by category, starting with children's literature, books about home education, and other books that are particular favorites.

Noticed you liked As I Lay Dying, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Here's a link to a summary (and a sample chapter)in case you'd like to read more about the novel before you commit:

Thanks,

I see that you have a book by Inda Schaenen called The 7 O'Clock Bedtime: Early to bed, early to rise, makes a child healthy, playful, and wise.
Please can you tell me what age range of child the book covers?
Neat, I didn't know you were on LibraryThing! I've just read Little House on the Highlands and I'm actively trying to get the rest of the series. I remember being rather disappointed with my first introduction to the "other" Little House books - the Caroline series - so I was hesitant to try it again. But I really enjoyed Highlands and can't wait to keep going! Thanks for re-inspiring me to visit the Little House books!
Hi Melissa,

I just wanted to let you know that I've loved your books, especially Little House by Boston Bay ever since I was little. As a girl in high school now, I still reach for it on cold days when I just want to stay inside! It's a great book, and I just wanted you to know that teens like it too! (Or, at least I do...)

Thanks for what you write!
~Miss Lucinda
I hope this doesn't seem intrusive, but I couldn't resist dropping you a note.

I first discovered your books as a second grader infatuated with Laura Ingalls Wilder. I have a vivid memory of pulling Little House by Boston Bay off the the shelf of our local library and bringing it over to my mother, complaining that someone had "copied Little House on the Prairie!" But of course I had to read it, if only to bemoan the poor mimicry that the author must certainly have made of Little House.

Needless to say I soon realized that no, you hadn't ripped off Laura. Your books became staples of my bookshelf, and I devoured each one, quickly and repeatedly, as it came out for the next couple of years.

My 10-year-old sister now has my well-worn copies of your books, but a few days ago I picked Down to the Bonny Glen off her dresser (where it sits for easy access at bedtime,) and was delighted at how much enjoyment I can still derive from Martha's story. I think that I might just have to reclaim the books for a while!

Thank you for so many happy moments.
Yay! Here you are! (Moving is a perfect time to enter all of your books, isn't it?) We're using LibraryThing to keep track of all of the books that my daughter's read, starting some time last fall with the Martha Years. So her account shows many, many library books. Her username is littlemissreadsalot

And my account shows almost all of the books in our house. I love entering new books - my only problem is that I don't feel like taking out the books that I'm giving away (we're moving also.) My account is under awesmom
