About meI'm retired, so I have a lot more time to read. I was an editor at Microsoft. I loved editing, although the content was dry. Before Microsoft, I was a struggling artist. Now I'm making art again, without the struggle part - much nicer!

About my libraryThis includes books read by my book group, not all of which I liked. I've tried to include everything I've read in recent years, except vacation trash. Recently I've been adding books I read much earlier in my life, including some of my favorite books when I was a child. I own many of these, but certainly not all of them.

This is a really wonderful website: Letters With Character. People write letters to characters in fiction. Check it out, and let me know what you think!
I like this list: http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/snow-white-doesnt-live-here-anymore/201011/3....
Being a Canadian, the books of Margaret Atwood and Robertson Davies were recommended to me in school with extra emphasis, and I am happy to say that once I had a taste of both of them, no further recommendations were required, because I ran with the initial recommendation and didn't stop until I read every novel by both authors. This stretched out a bit because I finished high school in 1980 at a time when Robertson Davies was still alive, so that, as each of his new books came out after that, and as each of Margaret Atwood's books come out, I read it within 6 or 12 months of the new release. I guess if I was more diligent I would do it faster, but there is so much competition from other favourite authors; plus, I am so cheap that I almost never buy books at the initial release price; rather I wait until it hits the remainder table or is released in paperback or I wait until the waiting list at the library has decreased.
Up until now--age 47--I have mostly just been doing first-ever reads to try to get as many books under my belt as possible, but I have recently begun to do a re-reading drive. All the books that I read 20 or 30 years ago are starting to fade from my memory, and I want to re-acquaint myself with them. So for example, I re-read Nostromo by Joseph Conrad and it immediately took me back on a memory trip back to my earlier self about 25 years ago.
I now intend to do this with some of the novels of Robertson Davies and Margaret Atwood. Any recommendations? I have a notion to start with the Fifth Business Manticore World of Wonders trilogy.
That's one of the things I like about this site -- I can see what other people are reading/ have read. And it is a terrific book. Liz
No worries about being slow in responding to my earlier message. This is the joy and glory of this group; come as you are, and when you will.

The group where we do most of our on line chatting is Seattleites and here's a link to our latest topic - http://www.librarything.com/topic/76798

Our next discussion will be about [Bad Land] and will be on Monday, May 10th, 7 pm, Third Place Books. Some of us arrive early and grab a bite to eat, also. Join us then, or later, which ever works best for you. Also, perhaps you'll find in the thread discussion about a Meet-Up in Portland in August. Maybe you can do that and see Powell's as well as other good Portland bookstores.

Stay in touch in any case and perhaps it will work out

Karen
