About meI have had a life-long interest in Mexico. Over the past ten years, my partner and I have traveled extensively throughout the country. We enjoy exploring the colonial cities in the central region of the country, visiting archeological sites, meeting the people and shopping in the local markets.

We've crisscrossed the country from the Gulf coast to the Pacific, and from it's border with the United States south to Guatemala, yet there are still unending opportunities to discover new and unexpected things, hidden treasures, and interesting people.

Favorite cities:
* Oaxaca, Oax.
* Queretaro, Que.
* Morelia, Michoacan.
* San Miguel de Allende, Gto.
* San Crisotbal de las Casas, Chiapas.

Favorite places:
* our room overlooking the street at the Hotel Hidalgo in Queretaro.
* the top of the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan.
* the falls at Misol Ha in Chiapas.
* the yacatas at Tzintzuntzan.
* the zocalo in Oaxaca City.

Favorite archeological sites:
* Casa de Cortez
* Monte Alban
* Teotihuacan
* Cempoala
* El Tajin
* Mitla

Favorite things to do in Mexico:
* search out and visit artisans who specialize in traditional arts and crafts.
* visit colonial churches, conventos and historic buildings.
* people-watching in the zocalo.
* visiting the local markets.
* taking lots of photos.
* trying new foods.
* shopping.

Favorite memories:
* the cooking class with Susana Trilling of "Seasons of My Heart" in Oaxaca.
* the temazcal with Amelia Cabrera from La Bugambillia in Oaxaca.
* the girl with marigolds walking down a mountain going to church.
* four weeks on the Pacific coast at Posada Arigalan (thanks Rose).
* the woman who asked, "que es la significa de 'Let's go see' ?"
* picnic at a roadside shrine on the way to San Cristobal de las Casas.
* driving the highways and byways and discovering the unexpected.
* getting locked in the outhouse in Tlacochahuaya.
* the scent of pine in San Cristobal de las Casas.
* our 6-year-old tourguide at the Casa de Cortez.
* the church in San Juan Chamula.
* the jaguars in Villahermosa.

About my libraryMy library focuses mainly on the Prehispanic history of Mexico and the Spanish colonial period, however, it does branch out into related areas such as Spanish and Islamic cultures. My books cover subjects such as art, architecture, history, culture, mythology and cuisine.

We share many books in commong and with your love of Mexican ceramics, you should consider going on the rendezvous with Los Amigos del Arte Popular, June 27-July 4. It is not too late. To see the details of the trip, go to www.ladap.org and choose Events then choose Our Next Rendezvous. Jorge Wilmot will present to our group and we will enjoy a private exhibition & sale for us by 20+ of the best ceramic artisans of Tonala & much more. - Cathey Merrill
Hello Mextex - we share 21 books in common and after reading your profile it seems we share a love of Mexico and Mexican folk art. I invite you to visit our website at www.ladap.org and consider joining our national non-profit organization named Los Amigos del Arte Popular. Our goal is to promote & educate the public about Mexican folk art and we use our membership dues and trip registration fees to carry out those projects. We last published an Artes de Mexico book in cooperation with them about the glazed pottery made in Tlaquepaque between 1920-1945; two of our members were contributing writers and all photos used are pieces owned by our members. Happy hunting and have fun reading! - Cathey Merrill
