About meBest quote:"Chanu stopped and looked in a shop window.'Seventy-five pounds for that little bag.You couldn't fit even one book in it.'"(from Brick Lane by Monica Ali)
I like books that start me on a trip. The biggest last year started with the 'Piano Tuner' by Daniel Mason. Excited,I cast about for MORE BURMA.I had 'The Glass Palace' by Amitav Ghosh. More! Trotted off to Lotus Books,he had a small stack of Nat'l Geos 1931,1940...then Burma itself went into lockdown and the "historical novels" I'd been reading came a whole lot closer. I'll be looking for Emma Larkin's 'Finding George Orwell In Burma'.*FOUND IT*
< as of may 08,my heart is now crying.>
It's not exclusive,I'm still reading in all directions.
Before that was[head-long]by [[Michael Frayn]],featuring
Bruegel, who of course I knew of, but now I was on more intimate terms,so now I was delving into all things Bruegel. One of my favorite finds in this regard is actually lifted from the children's section; 'Valentin and Orsen',retold and illustrated after B. by Nancy Ekholm Burkert --Wonderful!
About my libraryThousands of books,I last saw the kitchen table, the floor, the dresser-top...around about Thanksgiving 2006,shortly after moving here. This listing-tagging thing--it's fun. I love watching the tag cloud grow and change--sometimes the words combine word-soup style and make little sentences, little poems. Haiku pieces. So at least for now, I'm using it to explore my stacks and boxes and self instead of just listing everything. I'm still acquiring but I'm trying to "get a grip".(Ha.) -E.
The last couple years I'm reading alot of 'fiction' based either in the far east or by writers from there,
and collect art books both western-Hopper,Cornell,Cezanne,Bruegel,.... and anything from another culture, especially if it's in a non painting on canvas medium.ie Indonesian shadow puppetry,Alaskan weaving,..

Thanks for the comment. I hardly ever check these, since I have so little time to play on the computer . . . too much work to do.
I started scanning my books into Librarything, but have been having my office young lady do it recently, since she also works at the public library and I have lots to do that she can't do for me . . . so I didn't even KNOW what a tag cloud was, but now I see what you mean. It's very cool to see the pattern of my own collection in all its shapes and sizes.
I didn't know about the Orange award, but will check it out. Obviously I've got way more books than I can possibly read, but hey . . .
My partner bought me a Kindle (Amazon electronic book reader) for Christmas, and I've been playing with that as well. It won't ever replace paper (real) books, but it sure will be handy when I go to Italy in May. Won't have to lug a half dozen books with me, just in case I get time to read them!
I'm in three book groups and just got done with Anna Karenina, Loving Frank, and starting Suite Francaise for this month.
Thanks for the Orange Award tip. I'll go right now to see if I can find a list of winners for the last few years.
