About me I am a Book Ministry Leader, meaning I am passionate about helping others grow through reading GREAT books! My passion is books, but I also love to write, scrapbook, learn about Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs, and to play piano “by ear". I hope to someday speak, read, and write Spanish fluently even though I'm just learning right now! :-P

For the past five years, my average number of books read per year is around 55, although, the last couple of years have seen that number decline a bit (life's too crazy!). I belong to several online book discussion groups, and I spend a good deal of time searching for even more books to read. My personal library has grown tremendously thanks to library sales, goodwill shops, and yard sales, as well as Freecycle.org!

I'm also a Book Reviewer for Bethany House publishers.

My favorite genre is mystery/suspense. I love Christian fiction, and really enjoy reading Christian "emergent" nonfiction (ie: “A Scandalous Freedom" by Steve Brown, “The Barbarian Way" by Erwin Raphael McManus, “Velvet Elvis" by Rob Bell). Other books I enjoy are ones set in the time periods of Regency England or Ancient Egypt. Favorite authors include Christian Jacq, Susan May Warren, Gaelen Foley, Sandra Brown, Karen Kingsbury, and Lisa Wingate.

For everyday rambles about books, check out my blog: THE BOOK ZONE.
:-)

Thanks for visiting my bookshelf!

About my library I've had my library catalogued in a database for the past 4 years, and I think that it's great to be able to show everyone my collection! I currently own over 1100 books!

I'm a sucker for a good cover, therefore a lot of the books on my virtual shelf, here, are chosen for their covers...not necessarily because that's the edition I have.

My favorite genres are mystery/suspense, Christian fiction, health/fitness, and memoirs. I love Ancient Egypt, and Regency England. I also love arty things ... music, drawing, architecture... so my shelf is peppered with these sorts of books.

I collect Classics, but haven't read many of them. I hope to someday. :? People tell me that the older you get, the more you enjoy them, so maybe I've got a few years...?

I wouldn't worry about it yet, all the holidays delayed shipping, so the books from the December batch are just starting to trickle in now...

I would love to know more about what it means to be a Book Ministry Leader. Do you ever use some of the great children and young adult fiction works to develop a positive can do approach, glass half full and empowering through story. The Newbery project has really encouraged me to read a variety of such books. Just finished A Single Shard, but there are plenty of others!
I love Jennifer Weiner's "Good in Bed" - I've re-read it a few times. It's my ultimate chick lit feel good solution!
Hi there - Nice meeting you on Facebook!! WE only have 24 books in common!! :()
I see you like "Mosquito" by Roma Tearne. Me too! I moderate an online book club for Toronto Public Library, and today, June 20, 2007, we had Roma as a guest blogger. She was really super.
If you're interested, you can read what she had to say, and questions and answers posed by readers, by going to

then choosing Discussion Forums, then The Buzz.
She's really nice. Did you know she's an artist, too?
Hey there! I'm a late comer to LT. You think I would have started long ago. I signed up probably back when you brought it up on the tbr group but just started putting my books in. Now I love it!
Book Minister Leader, I need some help. I want a book that expresses the "heart of a woman". I do not want develop a woman studies library. Just one good book. thank you, cappi
Hey there. I don't know if I ever replied to the note you left me a long time ago. I'm so sorry if I didn't! I didn't mean to be rude.

Take care!

Thank you for turning me on to LibraryThing, MizBooks. I've started logging in my books. Hubby's even joined in on the fun, logging in a few of the books he has on his desk. He likes seeing how many people have his more "unusual" books. Now to come up with something to say in the "About Me" and About My Library" sections. Thanks again!
Hey, I just uploaded a cover picture for Cat in the Mirror. Just thought I'd let the other people who have this book know.
Hi there-
I write a book review column for a regional parenting magazine (Island Parent), for the Canadian Book Review Annual (a national reference resource that reviews every book published in Canada each year - used by libraries, teachers, etc), and edit the Victoria Children's Literature Newsletter. I'm gradually copying all my print reviews onto LibraryThing...

When you say you review for Bethany House, how does that work? That's a publishing house, right? Do you review their books for the website? Or do you review manuscripts pre-publication? Curious minds need to know!
Thanks for swinging by my virtual bookshelves!
Cheers,
Bibliofool
Great to hear from you. I'm glad you loved Rob's book. I feel a little bad that I gave it such a low rating, but it's kind of like watching re-runs. I have to be honest in my ratings/reviews, otherwise, why do it? But, Rob's teachings are amazing. I think as far as reaching people, his Noomas are his strong point. They are fantastic. (I'm an extra in Luggage!) You are welcome to visit Mars Hill anytime. But, I strongly encourage you to make sure that Rob will be there when you come because he is gone a lot.

This LibraryThing is pretty crazy. I also love to read great books with the hope of growing, I love scrapbooking, and mostly, Ancient Egypt! I'm going to check out that group.

Take Care
Hey Mizbooks - I just noticed you left a comment on my Library...

I enjoyed "Buck Naked Faith". Sandras is very real and honest about his faith - especially his failings as a younger man while trying to be Christian. That sort of transparency and honesty is what we need more of.

Hopefully I'll continue to add to this. Library Thing is waaaay cool.
Hey, thanks for the note! I'm glad you found me on here. That's cool about having some of the same books, too. I have a loooong way to go to get all mine cataloged -- something I've wanted to do for years, and wouldn't even be doing now without LibraryThing. I love it. I probably have around 1,200 books, so it'll take awhile to get them all on. Thanks again for saying hi! Feel free to stay in touch. Take care. -- Larry
