About meI read just about anything that holds an appeal past the first few pages. I am a very eclectic reader and will try any book at least for the first chapter.

I'm also on bookmooch -- id- bookmoocher --.

About my libraryAll the books in my library are owned by me unless otherwise tagged. There aren't many that I don't own, but I haven't read most of them. Someday I will finish them all, until then I just keep buying more and more.

Noticed you liked Lovely Bones, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here, as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it also contains a young female narrator struggling with a series of tragic circumstances. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Here's a link to a summary (and a sample chapter) in case you'd like to read more about the book before you commit:

Hi Leslie

I'm trying to get my LT library in order and note that there are many books recommended by you on my list.

Many thanks!

Linda
Leslie
I finished the book Kira, Kira this morning and want to thank you for your recommendation. If not for you, I would not have known of this book. It is stunningly beautiful, sad, poetic and a book that will haunt for a while. And, you were correct, boxes of tissues were needed.

I hope all is well with you.

Linda
Leslie,

I have not ever taught an adult to read, so I am making suggestions that may or may not be helpful. The first thing I would do is see if there is a local adult literacy program in your area (the one in my area is run from the local library) and seek out some of their resources. Talk to the people who are involved in the literacy program and see if they may have some suggestions for you.

Since you would be teaching an adult reader, I would ask for their input on a regular basis. Choose materials that you would think they would be interested in - I know that you will need to start with easy readers, but make them about your students interests.

Probably the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to be patient. I take reading for granted because I have been doing it since I was 3 years old and sometimes I really struggled with my patience even though the girls were small. What seemed self-evident to me did not to them.

Do not forget the resources of your local library either - they may actually have some books about teaching an illiterate that would give further help to you.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Hi Leslie
I'm back from my trip and will send The Secret Life of Bees to you tomorrow.

I hope you are well.
Linda
Hello there,
Just thought I'd drop a line to say that your STRIP thread is an interesting and amusing one. Thank you. Poor omboy is being a little over-sensitive today I think. I always read posts to LT in the sure knowledge that posts are written in a spirit of good-natured light-heartedness, or sometimes of serious enquiry, sometimes even to be a little contentious just to get things moving! It's all good fun. Even the cranky posts make me laugh....

Best wishes,
Thrin
My bad, I guess you did write north east. Silly me.

Carrie
Hi, I'm on Book Mooch but I have yet to put any books on my account. I usually take my books to a used bookstore and I also use the library alot.

Are you near Warren county? We have ground in Tidioute, Pa. That area is gorgeous!
Talk to you soon,
Carrie
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries. We certainly do have a lot in commen. What part of PA are you from? I'm from Williamsburg, a small town just outside of Altoona in South central PA. Talk to you soon.

Carrie
Hi, I just replied to you on Name That Book in your search for a mystery novel. I'm sure the book you were describing is The Third Victim by Lisa Gardner.

I've put my answer on there but thought you might not be checking so long after asking the question. The officer in the book is Rainie Conner and she did kill her mother's boyfriend as a young teen but the crime was covered up and she did manage to become a police officer. On her first big case, a school shooting, the gunman turns out to be the police chiefs teenage son. FBI Officer Pierce Quincy comes to town to help investigate and becomes Rainie's love interest. Together they work out that the teenager didn't work alone and they need to work out who the other guy is before Rainie becomes his next victim.

I really hope that puts your mind at rest because I know how annoying it is to try to remember a book title that just keeps on escaping you.

Stop by my library sometime to say hi if you like, we seem to have some books in common (only 4 here so far but I haven't put all mine on yet). Take care, Jody
Thanks Molly :)
