About meI am a Benedictine monk currently living and working 'in the world', based at a bus company in Oxford.

My interests are wide and varied; my mind is like a butterfly, flitting from book to book to find the sweetest nectar.

In the main, I tend to focus on liturgy (naturally, as a monk should), theology (again, no suprise there), history, politics and computers.

And yes, I have driven a big red bus.

About my libraryMany of my books are still in my monastery and are catalogued in that library.

Those catalogued here are mostly ones I have accumulated over the last 8 years: it is frightening how quickly a collection can grow, without even trying!

Some are the relics of my childhood that my parents have kept for me: especially all things Doctor Who!

Dear Monachus: You have quite a collection of "Doctor Who"! My favorite science fiction is "The Foundation Trilog" by Isaac Asimov, some of the works by H.G. Wells, Jules Verne and Clives Staples Lewis' trilogy, starting with "Out of the Silent Planet". I have studied the Shroud of Turin at some length, with six or seven books on the subject, as well as the Sudarium cloth. My favorite book is "The Bible", with "Psalms" having the biggest impact on my world view. Abba Father brought me to Christ back in 1962, through a book from a distant relative, "Pictorial Pilgrim's Progress". I was only eight years old at the time, but I read it time and again. Eventually, John Bunyan's book, the truth in it, convicted me of my sin, the coming Judgment, and the righteousness of Christ. I didn't really grow in the Christian faith for a long time, which I now know was due to woundedness and a root of bitterness. Jesus has been faithful to walk me through my pain and is bringing healing. Our family also likes J.R.R. Tolkien. Both my wife and I are originally from the west coast, but we didn't meet until here in the Midwest. My profession is architecture and Nora is a stay-at-home-mom for the remaining five of seven children. Our oldest daughter is home briefly from the Ukraine. Our oldest son is leaving for Uganda this coming Monday. I must confess that I don't know a lot about the Benedictine order. I've read Patrick's writing, and am now reading through "The Confessions" of Augustine, both in the Latin and in English. It is slow going, but I enjoy it. You say that your interests are widespread. So are mine. I regularly have a dozen to a score of books that I am skipping back and forth in. Please feel free to stop by for a visit sometime. yangguy
